“We thought, this is the kind of dog we would like someday, only to find out that he was being fostered and available for adoption.

Two days later, Ike was ours.

Ike, along with his entire litter of siblings was rescued by a group called Social Tees.

The foster people were attached already, but couldn’t keep him.

They were working 10-12 hours a day.”

“Our daughter had been asking for a dog for ten years and my husband was adamantly against having a dog in the city.

Then one day he said, yes.

During a frigid winter two years ago, we decided we would wait until May, but two weeks into March we saw this beautiful dog being walking in Tribeca.”

“My wife ended up scooping up both dogs in her arms while I hailed a taxi to take us home.

Later we were hit with the reality of looking after two puppies.

We knew we couldn’t cope with two puppies, especially in a small apartment.

I took Tina’s sister, Tula back to Social Tees, which was very sad.

They were both slightly sick, but Tina was more lively, so we decided to return Tula.

It was heartbreaking.”

“Both my wife and I have always had dogs.

W had one each with our families, growing up.

We’ve never had one together as a couple and it’s something we’ve talked about for a few years.

The time seemed right to foster, because my wife can’t work, as we are from England.”

“We agreed to sleep on it that night and see how we felt the next morning.

The first thing in the morning we contacted the shelter and asked if she could be ours.

We said, please don’t give her to anyone else.

We had to apply to be adoptive care givers.

We were approved by the end of the day.

I feel like Tina and I just found each other.

We were both newcomers to NYC.

She came from the Dominican Republic and I came from England.

It feels like we are taking on NYC together.”

“My husband and I wanted a dog for years, but it’s never been the right time.

We originally fostered Tina, for Social Tees.

We thought we’d start off by fostering, before adopting.

I started following Social Tees on Instagram, and then my husband and I applied to be foster care givers.

We were approved straight away.”
