Rooney, the Miniature Pinscher, Pit Bull, Hound Mix Rescue, that filled a void (she said, part 3)

I never had a small dog before, but I am in NYC indefinitely and I have a small space.

I fostered, and went to tons of shelters and rescue events.

My boyfriend and I found Rooney at Animal Haven, downtown.

She had just arrived that day from Puerto Rico.

She was three or four months old and we asked if we could play with in the little meeting room.”

Kiwi, the Chipoo (chihuahua/poodle) rescue mix, (he said, part 4)

IMG_1998“I’ve been working with Kiwi to build trust ¬†for four and a half months and it seems to be paying off, though she still tries to claim my spot on the bed.

We are currently working on that.

I will occasionally have to wear an oven mitt so her bite doesn’t hurt.

When she bites, I send her off to her crate with a treat.

Since she is a rescue dog, we don’t know if she had some traumatic experience or not.”

Susu, the couple bonding, French Bulldog (part 1)

“My girlfriend is the one who got the dog.

She had gone through an emotional breakup with someone and she felt very alone.

She was out with her sister and there happened to be a puppy sale nearby.

She walked over and saw this little white French Bulldog staring up at her, and she just could’t leave her.

Susu is my girlfriend’s first dog ever.

She was named after a little girl that my girlfriend used to babysit for, who loved a little white fluffy stuffed animal, just like Susu.”

Vivi, the terrier, chow, greyhound, chihuahua, sharpei, mix from Puerto Rico (part 2)

“We didn’t find what we were looking for in a New York shelter, so we went to Pet Finder to expand our search.

We found a five month old Labrador mix at Stray From the Heart, a New York City rescue group.

I filled out the paper work, organized a home ivies and it turned out that Vivi was still in Puerto Rico.

She hadn’t been transported to New York, yet.

I picked up Vivi from JFK airport three weeks later.

She was so scared that she didn’t pee for the first fifteen hours that we had her.”

Leo, the Lionhearted, Miracle Terrier Rescue (part 2)

“I filled out an application for him on the Friday before Mother’s Day and that Sunday, I got a call to go to Unleashed on Columbus Avenue to meet with him.

He and his brother were both available.

I had filled out the application for Leo, so I met with him, and after the apartment inspection he was ours.

I found out that his mom and two other dogs were surrendered to a shelter and immediately spayed and neutered, without knowing that one of the dogs was pregnant.

After opening her up and discovering she was pregnant, they closed her up, unsure if the puppies would survive, but they did.

Leo is a miracle baby.”
