KIWI, THE CHIPOO – CHIHUAHUA/POODLE MIX (SHE SAID, PART 5)

“Since having Kiwi, we moved to New York, from Palo Alto and she provided great companionship throughout the move.

We weren’t as close to a dog park in California, so New York is great for her because she loves the dog park.

Having Kiwi has given me another creature to care for and my maternal instincts have kicked in.

The three of us make a nice little family.”

“It was difficult at first because she wanted to sleep with me, but my roommate didn’t want her in our bedroom, so she was relegated to the living room.

She cried and scratched at the door, so I got a trainer and I practiced going in and out of the bedroom and not responding when she cried or scratched at the door.”

“It was a foster to adopt process and I had a week to decide if I wanted to keep her, but

I was convinced from the first minute, when she hopped on my lap, that she would be mine.

I had a few roommates, so they had to get to know her and approve.

It took a little convincing with some of my roommates, but by the week’s end, everyone approved.

M boyfriend was visiting, and he had to approve, too.”

“I liked the expression on her face and they described her as being quiet.

Also, I lived in a no dog allowed apartment.

To get past the no dog rule, I got a letter from a therapist saying, I needed her for emotional support, which I did.

I didn’t hear for a few days, but when I followed up, they told me to come and pick her up.

I left work and picked her up an hour later.”

“My boyfriend moved away for a year and we were having a long distance relationship, so I basically replaced him with a dog.

I applied to several different rescue groups online and applied for several different dogs.

I got rejected from a few, because I work full time.

Then, I saw Kiwi’s profile on Cooper’s Dream website and applied right away.”

“We all grieved together, as Ellie was abandoned and missing her people at the same time that we lost Suzi and were sad and alone.

Ellie seemed like a good fit for that reason.

After caring for a senior dog for over a year, we wanted to care for a dog with a bit more energy that was also more independent.

Ellie was meek and seemed depressed at the beginning.

After six months, she started coming around.”

“Oscar is like my best friend.

I like the responsibility of caring for him.

I know he likes me and that makes me feel good.

We love walking together and driving in the car.

We like being outside together.

He almost died from some flesh eating bacteria about mine months ago.”

“There hasn’t been a whole lot of improvement with his manners.

We got him on a Friday and Jack Klugman died that Sunday.

My first thought when he died was that this dog is going to be called, Oscar Madison.

He lives up to his name.

Every evening we put about 20 toys in a neat pile in front of the living room fireplace and by the time we wake up in the morning, they are spewed all over the living room floor.

I know something is wrong with him if there is no mess in the morning.”

“Our previous dog, Hatter, a Briard, died and I asked my wife if we could rescue a dog.

She went online and found a dog that looked like a Briard that needed to be rescued.

He’s from the south, but was at a shelter in Elmsford, West Chester.

My wife drove up to the shelter to meet him and brought him home that day.

He was four months old, friendly but was a slob.

After he ate, the food was all over the living room rug.”
