BAILEY, THE STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER, CHOW CHOW, BOXER AND LABRADOR RETRIEVER RESCUE MIX (PART 6)

“Going on these walks makes it able to see how pushing through her challenges has paid off.

Our walks are a mutual understanding of what we do in the morning and represent the respect we have for each other, as well as her accomplishments.

It’s a great way to spend the morning and we both love it.

Joy Rides is an amazing organization.

They transported Bailey and hundreds of thousands of other dogs from kill shelters in the south and bring them up north for adoption.”

“He was there with his sister, but she was already spoken for.

We spent close to four hours with him–my entire family sat with him to make sure it was going to work.

He was gentle with my granddaughter and he got along with my daughter’s dog, so we adopted him.

After five months we got an email from Paws Crossed asking if we would be interested in setting up a play date with L.T. and his sister.

We were happy to have the sibling puppies socialize together.

We met at a dog park in Westchester and they got along beautifully.

They looked identical, and after ten minutes they were inseparable.”

“L.T. is short for Logan Taylor.  There is another Logan in my apartment building, so I started calling him, L.T.

I was recently out of work, or semi-retired and I now have the time to devote to a puppy.

My family and I went to a rescue shelter in Westchester, called Paws Crossed.

My daughter and I found L.T.

He is a hound, terrier and golden mix.

We chose him because of his personality.

He was mellow.  He was four and a half months old and he was so serene.”

We were living in a temporary apartment while we were looking for a new place.  Getting another dog was not on the table because we already had one, but one day when we were picking up her food at this pet store, I made eye contact with this puppy and I ended up leaving the store with him in my arms.

We weren’t planning on buying another dog for a myriad of reasons.

We already had a dog, we were living in a temporary space and we don’t support puppy mills.  Also, we hadn’t been together long.”

“My parents got a dog the year before I left for college but I had always wanted one.  I’d been obsessed with dogs since I was tiny.

Getting a dog was always on my Christmas list.

Nikki is a rescue and kind of a nervous dog.

My boyfriend, and I are passionate about adopting/rescuing dogs as opposed to shopping at a pet store.”

“I went on Petfinder (which is like online dating).

She had a great profile photo and first person story.  So, we went on a first date, which was a walk in Central Park.

She was standoffish because she had a really tough start.

She was found pregnant, roaming the streets of the Bronx and taken to a kill shelter.

They gave her an abortion and she was going to be put down that week.

A foster family rescued her, but couldn’t keep her, so she bounced around 3 or 4 homes before I got her.

Her last foster home was with a pit bull activist who helped her socialize and become more at ease.”

“She engaged with us right away.

She got into our laps and wanted to play.

We put in an application for her then and there.

She had a lot of applications.

We checked in with the people at Animal Haven to the point of being annoying, but our persistence paid off.

We’ve had her since August.”

I never had a small dog before, but I am in NYC indefinitely and I have a small space.

I fostered, and went to tons of shelters and rescue events.

My boyfriend and I found Rooney at Animal Haven, downtown.

She had just arrived that day from Puerto Rico.

She was three or four months old and we asked if we could play with in the little meeting room.”
