IKE, THE RESCUE BOXER, CHOW, COLLIE, LAB AND HOUND MIX (PART 2, SHE SAID)

“We thought, this is the kind of dog we would like someday, only to find out that he was being fostered and available for adoption.

Two days later, Ike was ours.

Ike, along with his entire litter of siblings was rescued by a group called Social Tees.

The foster people were attached already, but couldn’t keep him.

They were working 10-12 hours a day.”

Oscar Madison, The Messy Terrier/Sheepdog Mix Rescue (He Said, Part 3)

“Oscar is like my best friend.

I like the responsibility of caring for him.

I know he likes me and that makes me feel good.

We love walking together and driving in the car.

We like being outside together.

He almost died from some flesh eating bacteria about mine months ago.”

Nikki and Winston, The Pit Bull and Sheba-Enu Rescue Dogs (He Said, Part 4)

“The first year of his life was difficult.

He was sick with pneumonia.  He was indoors for 5 months, so that stunted our ability to socialize him for a while.

At first Nikki didn’t know what to do with puppy Winston.  She looked at me as if to say, what did you do?

The first year, Nikki was intent on being an only child.

Eventually Winston wore her down and now they are the best of friends.”

“I went on Petfinder (which is like online dating).

She had a great profile photo and first person story.  So, we went on a first date, which was a walk in Central Park.

She was standoffish because she had a really tough start.

She was found pregnant, roaming the streets of the Bronx and taken to a kill shelter.

They gave her an abortion and she was going to be put down that week.

A foster family rescued her, but couldn’t keep her, so she bounced around 3 or 4 homes before I got her.

Her last foster home was with a pit bull activist who helped her socialize and become more at ease.”

“I always had a dog growing up and then once I got to college I kept telling my friends I was going to get a dog.

6 years went by and I still didn’t have a dog.

I landed my first good paying job and my best friend said, why don’t you have a dog.

2 weeks later I got Nikki.

I knew I wanted to adopt and I knew I wanted a pit bull because there are so many of them that need a home.”

Norman, the Goofy Shepherd/Husky Puppy That Makes Everyone Laugh (part 5)

“My husband and I are usually out and about and traveling, but Norman has caused us to be home and slow down.

We have spent every weekend at home and now have a greater appreciation for the city.

We take long walks through the park and spend more time at the dog run, because Norman loves it.”

They get along great, but Norman can be annoying because he wants to play more than she does (she’s 11), he gets the message most of the time and backs off.

We’ve had Norman four month and he’s such a ball of energy.

He’s funny; he’s that goofy puppy that makes everyone laugh.

He’s got long legs that he will hopefully, grow into, but right now he’s very uncoordinated and constantly tripping over his own legs.”

“Muddy Paws partners with Best Friends Animal Rescue, so I felt good about the organization.

I filled out an application and there was a phone interview.

Once I was approved I started looking online at the puppies and dogs for adoption.

After four weeks I saw Norman’s photo.”

Roxanne, the International Rhodesian Ridgeback Puppy (she said, part 3)

“Roxanne doesn’t experience any pain and we will have it fixed when we get her neutered.

She has been with us for about six months.

It was a very stressful time for both my boyfriend and me when she arrived.

She had to adjust to city living, coming from farm life.

It was difficult to go through the day because she wasn’t used to walking on a leash and was fearful of everything (sliding doors, cars, too many people, and noise in general).”

Scout, the Labrador Retriever that brought joy to a family (part 4)

“The kids love to play with her, and they help with the walking when they can.

We also have given in to getting a dog walker sometimes because it takes the pressure off of us.

I can take the kids to activities like soccer or dance after school without worrying about running home to walk her.”
