Anubis, the Papillon/Chihuahua mix and Dima, the Pomeranian/Husky mix (part 5)

IMG_2345-2

“Dima always looks like he’s smiling and it makes me want to grin too.

Anubis loves everybody and was excited to make a new friend when we brought Dima home.

Dima takes time to warm up to people and it took him time to get used to living with Anubis.

Now, they love each other and he even lets Anubis in his crate.

He knows Anubis always wants to be near someone.

They are best friends.”

JARVIS, THE GOLDEN DOODLE PUPPY THAT WAS BORN THE DAY WE GOT ENGAGED (PART 5, HE SAID)

IMG_1369

“One of the best times since having Jarvis was when he was a tiny puppy and was so small and carefree.

He had a real innocence.

It took me out of the business of life.

He was a great distraction from the stress and pressures of daily life.

Also, on of the awesome things about Jarvis is that he was boron the day I proposed and my fiancé said, yes.”

Isabel, One of two sister Lab/Whippet rescue Dogs from Tennessee (part 1, she said)

“My boyfriend and I were looking for a puppy for my best friend for her birthday.   She has a boxer that’s 8 and wanted a companion for her dog as well as herself (for when her dog passes).

She is a maternal person and enjoys caring for others.

She left it up to me to pick out her dog.  She wanted it to be a surprise.

We definitely wanted to get her a rescue.

We found a boxer lab mix and filled out the forms.

A few days before the puppy was supposed to be shipped from Tennessee, the man from the rescue group told me, the puppy had parvo, (a deadly virus) and didn’t survive.

He had a few puppies that weren’t right for her lifestyle, so we told him to hold on to our deposit and we would check back with him.”

Penny, the Dachshund Mix from Rescue Dogs Rock (part 5, he said)

“It took six months to trust her off leash and be confident that she wouldn’t run off.

Penny has really come into her own.

She trusts us.  We have developed a great bond.

The best thing about having her is the joy she has brought to our lives.

I consider her a missing piece that made our family more complete.

I think the hardest part of having a dog is the time and commitment.

Penny requires a certain amount of time every day, so we sacrifice other things in order to take care of her.

Whether it’s work, exercise, or my social life, I am very happy to have the responsibility and live up to it.”

“No matter what kind of day we are having, at the end of the day, our pack will go to sleep in our den.

We originally thought we would have a no dog on the furniture policy, but Penny obliterated that quickly.

Now we all snuggle together on the bed.

Her favorite spot is between our faces on the bed.

I like to say, she is the statement, we are the parentheses.

We are hoping to get her in the Good Dog Foundation.

They train dogs and handlers to go into hospitals and other care facilities to bring companionship and joy to people having a hard time.

Penny is great with kids, so we would like to focus on having her become a service dog for pediatrics.”

“Penny has given our family an extra sweetness, like adding a jewel to a necklace.

She added a new dimension to our relationship and family unit.

We are her only two people–we made a promise and it’s a responsibility we love.

She came to us with some health problems, digestive issues–she couldn’t keep any food down, and we worried about her.

She had to have an endoscopy and it took several months to resolve.

Thankfully, she is fine.”

“Rescue Dogs Rock, saw a video of her posted on another rescue organization site based out of North Carolina, called A Shelter Friend, and pulled her to bring her to New York City.

Grateful Doggies is a shuttle service that brings rescue dogs via plane and car to their perspective homes and rescue groups for free.

So many caring groups were responsible for saving Penny from being put down in a kill shelter.”

“We called that photo Honey Ryder, because it reminded us of the image of the James bond character, Honey Ryder, coming out of the water in her white bikini, and the photo of Penny was her coming out of the water, with the sun behind her and her fur was glistening.

She was so cute.

She wasn’t all doxie, but we said, that’s okay, she’s so cute we have to meet this rescue.

The organization that posted her on Pet finder was called Rescue Dogs Rock.

We hadn’t heard of them, but soon found out they do great work.”

Tallulah, the Yellow Labrador Retriever/Whippet Rescue (Part 4)

“It’s a big transition coming to New York City from the suburbs of Alabama, but Tally is doing great.

She is occasionally skittish around the noises of the city, but she loves the energy here.

I’ve taken her on the train a few times and she is relaxed.

She has no problem with the subway.

In general, just in my last year of college when I didn’t have an roommates and I decided to live alone in New York, she has been my only roommate and companion and it’s great because she is there for me every step of the way.

When I transition, she transitions.

She’s something familiar and provides me with a real sense of stability.”

“Once she got into a ball point pen and when I came home there was ink all over my light colored carpet and her face was covered with ink.

Aside from the normal puppy phase, she was a great college dog.

She got lots of attention from people on campus and became a very social dog.

I just graduated from undergraduate school in May and came to NY a month ago for graduate school.

We rented a truck and drove up to New York City for 16 hours.”
