“My boyfriend wasn’t familiar with the joy that you have from having to take care of your own dog and the unconditional love you get in return.

Having Rooney as a shared responsibility has made our relationship grow and has added a spark to our family.”

” My family is retired from the military.

Being in the military, we brought Schuler and Winner everywhere we went.

Dogs are family to us, and leaving them behind was never an option.

After Winnie went back to Michigan, it was my first time being dog-less., and it felt like there was a huge hole in my life.

I started looking at rescue sites, and it seemed like there were so many in the city.

I knew I wanted to adopt a dog.”

“I’ve had dogs all my life and right now my family dogs are aging.

Our oldest dog, Schuler, who was a rescue Black Labrador and lived to be eighteen years old just died about six months ago.

I just moved to NYC, and  brought one of our other family dogs, Winnie, a Golden Retriever with me.

She is thirteen years old right now, and was just diagnosed with a slow progressing Leukemia.

The city was hard on her and she kept getting infections, so she ended up going back to Michigan to live with my retired parents.”

Penny, the Dachshund Mix From Rescue Dogs Rock (part 2, she said)

“We called that photo Honey Ryder, because it reminded us of the image of the James bond character, Honey Ryder, coming out of the water in her white bikini, and the photo of Penny was her coming out of the water, with the sun behind her and her fur was glistening.

She was so cute.

She wasn’t all doxie, but we said, that’s okay, she’s so cute we have to meet this rescue.

The organization that posted her on Pet finder was called Rescue Dogs Rock.

We hadn’t heard of them, but soon found out they do great work.”

“Our friend, Julia had two dachshunds, Henry and Joshua and we just fell in love with them.

So, I thought we wanted a dachshund.

My boyfriend and I love dogs and felt like it was time to get one.

We both had time consuming jobs, but started working from home, so it seemed like the right time.

My partner started googling Dachshund rescue on Pet Finder and Penny popped up on the screen.

She is a Doxie mix and her photo was the cutest dog we’d ever seen.”

Morgan, the Miniature Doberman Pinscher Mix From Social Tees Rescue (part 4, she said)

“Morgan is a mush,

He is a love bug.

As far as having something loving in the house when you have two teenagers, who are sometimes not loving, is a great comfort.”

Morgan was born on July 24th, and my sons were born on July 23rd and 25th, so he fit right in.

He’s most comfortable when the entire family is at home.

He likes the pack being together.

My husband and I have some alone time when walking Morgan.

Also, it’s a good way for us to get exercise, as well as Morgan.”

“He’s very pretty and he has a nice smile.

The puppies were getting a lot of attention and Morgan was in his cage looking handsome and smiling.

He wasn’t a baby, he was six months old.

We filled out the paperwork and they did a background check on us.

We took him home that day.

The best thing about Morgan is that he’s so different from our Jack Russell, who was never affectionate, or even friendly for that matter.

He was aloof.”

“We had a Jack Russell Terrier and he passed away when he was 18 years old.

We waited for two years, when my younger boy, who, at the time was 11 years old, asked for a dog.

That was Christmas time three years ago.

A friend of mine told me that a rescue shelter called Social Tees showcases their animals at Petco on Lexington Avenue, so my husband and I went over on a Saturday afternoon.

We spotted Morgan and that was it.”

Amelia, the rescue terrier mix from Los Angeles (part 3)

“Amelia and I just moved to New York City from Los Angeles and the weather and noise level has been a challenge for her.

Being here, we are closer to my family and they have a lot of land and two dogs for her to play with.

Amelia has been very social since moving to New York and it’s great to watch her run and play with other dogs.

I am also starting a new job soon, so it will be an adjustment for Amelia and me to be apart during the day.”
