TALLULAH, THE YELLOW LABRADOR RETRIEVER/WHIPPET RESCUE (PART 5)

“In general, just in my last year of college when I didn’t have any roommates and I decided to live alone in New York, she has been my only roommate and companion and it’s great because she is there for me every step of the way.

When I transition, she transitions.

She’s something familiar and provides me with a real sense of stability.”

“I just graduated from undergraduate school in May and came to NY a month ago for graduate school.

We rented a truck and drove up to New York City for 16 hours.

It’s a big transition coming to New York City from the suburbs of Alabama, but Tally is doing great.

She is occasionally skittish around the noises of the city, but she loves the energy here.”

I’ve taken her on the train a few times and she is relaxed.

She has no problem with the subway.

“Tally was a very curious puppy and got into anything I left on the floor.

“I took her home as a foster to adopt, and decided to keep her a week later.

She was so small that I took her everywhere with me, even shopping.

A week and a half later, I took her to college with me.

Because I left before the foster time was up, I adopted her over the phone and had my mother go to the shelter and finalize the paperwork.”

“I’ve always loved dogs.

I got Tally when I was in college, two years ago.

I got another dog first, but he was already sick with heart worm.

I didn’t want him to die in the shelter, so I adopted him and got him treated, but he died six months later from a grand mall seizure, related to his heart worm.

I knew I wanted to get another dog, so I waited until I went back home to Florence, Alabama and went to the local shelter, where I met Tally.”

Bodi, the Great Rescue Dog From Mississippi (Husband 2 Said, Part 1)

“I always wanted a dog but because I am an actor and my schedule and my life were so unpredictable I always put it off.

Four years ago I was on tour with The Book of Mormon and I realized that my gift to myself    after the tour would be a dog.

I was done making sacrifices.

I knew how much I loved dogs and I wanted a dog.  I made it a priority.

I even made my security code on my phone, D-O-G-S.”

“I was in Central Park with Bodie when he was five months old and I was watching two people get into an argument.

I didn’t notice that Bodie got swept away with a bunch of dogs and a dog walker.

I freaked and literally ten minutes went by.

My cell phone rang and it was Mike, and I was thinking, how am I going to tell Mike the dog is gone.  He said he was in the park and walking over to meet us.

As  Mike approached, I saw one of my dog friends from the park, with Bodie (attached to a leash).  She had found him.  That is one of the beautiful things about having dog friends.”

“We started the application process and filled out our first application, in which I realized Mike, my husband, and I were talking about two different dogs.  I said, it’s a 10 week old puppy in Mississippi and we’re never going to get him.  Well, two hours later they called and said, he’s yours.

I was mad because I didn’t want that dog.

I asked the woman on the phone how this happened so fast.  She said she just googled me and saw the trailer to my last movie.  She said, anyone who made that movie, has to have a heart, so we fast tracked it.

When I got off the phone with her, I said to Mike, that’s our dog.

We’ve never looked back.

“My husband wanted a dog desperately and I said it isn’t the right time, and he said, It’s never going to be the right time.

I conceded.

We went on Pet Finder one Sunday morning as an exercise, because we were just beginning the search.  We have two shelter cats and getting them was like an act of congress, so we thought it was going to take a long time.”

IKE, THE RESCUE BOXER, CHOW, COLLIE, LABRADOR, HOUND, MIX (HE SAID, PART 1)

“My daughter was the reason we got Ike.

I thought she shouldn’t grow up without a dog.

We met Ike on the street and that put the wheel in motion.  We were just walking to dinner and encountered him.  He was very friendly and his foster dad said, he was up for adoption.”
