ANUBIS, THE PAPILLON/CHIHUAHUA MIX AND DIMA, THE POMERANIAN/HUSKY MIX (PART 1)

IMG_2325-2

“Anubis came first.

My girlfriend was a cat person who didn’t really like dogs, but I convinced her to get a dog.

She decided to get a small dog.

She met a Papillon that she liked and decided this was the dog for her.

After researching online, she found a breeder in the Amish Country that she liked, with favorable reviews.

We found out that he was a mix because his fur kept growing but he didn’t.”

ROSIE, THE MINIATURE DACHSHUND THAT IS OVERCOMING SEPARATION ANXIETY (PART 4)

“I hired Bark Busters.

They really taught me about behavior.

There are no treats or punishment, it’s about speaking their language.

Establishing dominance through sounds really helped.

I would growl at her and she learned that I was alpha.

I also learned to crate train her with a calming sheet covering the crate and she is much less anxious now.”

“I broke up with the person I bought her with.

Rosie got anxious when we broke up and now she has separation anxiety.

She always had it, but it got worse after we moved.

She would bark the entire time I was out at work.

My neighbors were upset with the barking and I was afraid I was going to get kicked out of my new apartment.”

OTIS, THE COMICAL PUG (PART 2)

“Their faces were comical and made me giggle.

They seemed low maintenance.

All lies.

You can never do enough homework.

Pugs shed, whine, drool and are chewers.

I wasn’t prepared for all of that, but I decided that he’s my puppy child, and it is what it is.

If people don’t like it, they don’t have to come over.

It’s Otis’s house.”

The worst think about having him is how needy he is.

This breed is a needy one.

Otis is always under foot.  I can’t even go to the bathroom without him being by my side.

If I shut the bathroom door, or any door, he cries and bangs on the door.

I’ve gotten used to  him watching me on the toilet.

It’s the easiest option and he doesn’t judge me.”

BABKA, THE JACK RUSSELL/RAT TERRIER/CHIHUAHUA RESCUE FROM BIDE-A-WEE (PART 4)

“After taking her to the vet because she had a skin issue, namely, mange, we were told we needed to put her on a diet and give her a lot of exercise to slim her down.

We walked her five miles a day.

It worked and she lost a lot of weight after only two months.

She also had a growth spurt and that took care of the rest of the unwanted fat.”

Bruce, the Fearless French Bulldog (Part 3)

“He likes to greet every dog as they enter the dog run.

It’s like he’s saying, welcome!

My boyfriend and I were long distance for three years and we are both performers and we moved to NYC together.

When his work took him out of town, I was lonely.

Bruce has totally been there for me.  I don’t have time to wallow in the loneliness anymore, because he deserves the most happy wonderful life.”

Einstein, The Miniature Schnauzer From Amsterdam, That is a Great Comfort to His People (Part 5, He Said)

“The dedicated dog runs and off leash hours makes having a dog much easier.

There’s also a lot more socialization with other dogs.

I have noticed that people love dogs.

In fact, I think people like dogs more than humans.

My wife and I are grateful to have a dog being a long way from home (Australia), and moving to a new city.”

“They already began to housebreak him, so the rest was easy.

We took him from the countryside to the city of Amsterdam and the was a bit of an adjustment.

He was only 12 weeks old.

He is pretty adaptable, though.

He loves NYC, particularly Central Park and the squirrels.

One of the advantages of living in NYC is the dog culture here, especially on the Upper West Side, where we live.”

“They don’t have the same breed rescue groups in Holland, so she found a breeder with a litter available.

They were quite particular, which led to an interview.

We are Australian, so it was more of a cultural interview.

They asked a few questions about our lifestyle over a cup of tea and lunch.

Their daughter was present as a translator because they only spoke Dutch and we spoke English.”

“My wife and I were a long way from home and just missed that family vibe in the house.

She did a lot of research.

She grew up with Mini-Schnauzers and felt comfortable with them.

She got her first mini-schnauzer when she was seven and decided that was the dog of choice for us.

We bought him in the Netherlands.”
