Goldie, the Lagotto Romagnolo, that was a Surprise Birthday Present (part 5)

“We’ve only had Goldie for a little over a month and house breaking is still a work in progress.

I can walk her for an hour and sometimes she waits until we get back home, and pee’s as soon as we get back inside the apartment.

One of the great things about having Goldie, is that she reduces my stress level.

I don’t think about my own problems, because she is a great distraction.

I leave later for work and get home earlier every day to walk Goldie.”

“The breeder said she was housebroken.

Maybe he just made a mistake.

She pee’d and pooped in the apartment right away.

I came upstairs and said, it smells strange, and promptly stepped in dog poop.

Realizing she wasn’t housebroken, we put her in a crate in the kitchen, but she howled constantly, until we moved her crate to our bedroom.”

“The main thing was potty training him.

He took to it pretty quickly, but there were still lots of accidents.

Half of the laundry every week were blankets and sheets that he had pee’d on in his crate.

It was hard for him to hold his bladder overnight.

We are past that now.

I am really proud of him because he is only 4 1/2 months old.”

Penny, the Cavanese puppy that required some major house training (part 2)

“People don’t tell you how hard having a puppy is.

I wish someone had told both of us how difficult it would be.

It was a major adjustment.

A puppy requires a lot of time and supervision.

Every second was consumed with my puppy getting into something.

She chewed headphones, rugs, shoes, underwear, pillows and the couch.

Honestly, I was ready to get rid of her, but my boyfriend said Penny is our dogter (dog/daughter), and right now she’s a puppy, but soon she’ll be a dog.

She will calm down.”

Sammy, the Bijon, Shitzu teddy bear mix (he said part 2)

“I looked at a few puppies at a pet shop and noticed a Bijon Shitzu mix that was on sale because it had been at the store for a long time.

He was four months old, so his cost was reduced.

Sammy was friendly, hypoallergenic and it seemed right.

i surprised both my daughters and they were very excited.

I set up a gated area in the living room with his crate and toys.

We had problems right off the bat because he pooped everywhere, including his crate and gated area.

I tried walking him constantly, but my wife and I weren’t ready to handle a puppy.”

Sammy, the Bichon Shitzu teddy bear, pet shop rescue (she said, part 1)

“My husband wanted a dog, so we got Sammy.

First, he went to different shelters on Long Island because he wanted a rescue.

Being highly allergic, he couldn’t find a dog he wasn’t allergic to, so he went to a pet store and found Sammy.

We think of Sammy as sort of a rescue because he was four and half months old and sickly.

He was beyond the usual pet shop puppy adoption age and my husband was worried and felt sorry for him.

I thought Sammy was cute and furry for about six days.

I couldn’t take the mess after less than a week.

Sammy wasn’t housebroken and he peed and poo’d everywhere.

After six days, I told my husband, the dog has to go.”
