Bruce, the Fearless French Bulldog (Part 3)

“He likes to greet every dog as they enter the dog run.

It’s like he’s saying, welcome!

My boyfriend and I were long distance for three years and we are both performers and we moved to NYC together.

When his work took him out of town, I was lonely.

Bruce has totally been there for me.  I don’t have time to wallow in the loneliness anymore, because he deserves the most happy wonderful life.”

“The breeder knew I wanted a small dog and Bruce was the runt of the litter, so it was a good match.

I love his smushed face. I think it’s perfect.

I grew up with big dogs.

Bruce has a big dog personality in a small size.

He’s like a line backer.

He likes to play with the big dogs as well as the small ones.

He’s fearless.

He’s really social, which is one of my favorite things about him.”

“I’ve always been a dog lover and I knew that I wanted a dog for a long time.

When I found Bruce, I knew he was the one for me.

I got him from a breeder in Missouri.

It was a family friend who knew the I’d been interested.

I wanted to rescue a dog, but with all my traveling as an actor, I needed to make sure that I had a small dog that could fit under my seat in an airplane’

“Since having Olive our best moments have been since we moved.

A few years ago I had a falling out with a good friend was grateful to have Olive as a comfort.

It was nice to have something enjoyable that occupied my time and thoughts, like taking her on long walks and having her wait for me after a long day or night at work.

She is affectionate and it’s great to have a dog that loves me as much as I love her, even though she can be a pain in the butt.”

“I bought Olive a pack n play collapsable playpen and took her everywhere, until she tried to jump out.

That lasted for a few months.

She still has the energy of a puppy at three years old.

I take her on really long walks and to the dog park everyday so she can work off her energy.

It’s been a lot easier since we moved to Manhattan, because we live right by Central Park and a dog run is conveniently nearby, too.”

“She bred French Bulldogs and miniature horse, which I thought was quite funny.

Her breeder drove Olive from Missouri to my house in New Jersey.

She was no puppy mill breeder.

When I first got Olive, it was what I imagine a newborn to be like.

I spend a lot of time at home editing my work during the week, but I was worried about her getting into things because at 10 weeks she was curious about everything and and unafraid of anything.”

“Someone at my dog park in New Jersey, had a Frenchie who I really liked and I reached out to their breeder and she was about to have a litter.

She told me that I needed to reserve a dog, because they bred very conservatively and would be spoken for quickly.

At the time I wanted a male, but when she sent me photos of the litter, I fell in love with Olive’s face and knew she was the puppy for me.”

Jojo, the Beloved French Bulldog, Shared by Two People (part 4)

“One night Jojo jumped off the bed and his legs gave out from under him.

I knew he was in distress because he was panting heavily and he couldn’t walk.

I rushed him to the Animal Hospital, Blue Pearl and they operated on his spine the next morning.

It took four to five months for him to heal, and he is as recovered as he will ever be.

He can run and fetch, climb up on rocks, and ride on the bike.

He can’t jump off of anything, play tug of war, and he can’t wrestle.

Jojo is my best buddy.

I take him with me everywhere.”

“Jojo became more and more of a shared dog, and we consider it joint custody.

Two things changed  everything with Jojo and me.

Hiking and biking.

We started to go on the bus to Harriman State Park and hike all day.

We got there at 10:30 a.m. and left at 5:00 p.m.

I bike everywhere, so I bought a dog carrier that I attached to my bike and we are a team.

We rode to down to the battery along the river and then up to the little red lighthouse at the George Washington Bridge.”

“His owner said, Jojo would come home home after our trip to the dog run and Central Park, and pass out from exhaustion.

Next, we started having sleepovers.

His owner and I decided that I would keep him for several days a t time, which turned into Thursday evening through Monday morning.

I started taking him to he veterinarian, because I had him on the weekend, and his owner and I work during the week, and neither of us have much free time.”
