“I thought I could save her and give her a longer life, though sadly she was only with us for seventeen months.

After Suzi died, the group that we fostered her for, called Ready for Rescue, contacted us to see if we were too heartbroken or ready to foster again.

My husband and I decided that we could either be selfish and be grief stricken for six months or so, or we could give another abandoned dog a chance.

Suzi died on the 15th of March and Ellie was abandoned on the 17th of March.”

Eleanor Roosevelt, Ellie for short, is our second (foster to adopt) dog.

We first fostered a twelve year old rat terrier called Suzi until she was thirteen and a half, when she passed away.

Nobody wanted to adopt an older overweight and slightly handicapped dog, so we kept her until she died.

Suzi lost nineteen pounds while we fostered her and she had an unbeatable spirit.”

She was my furry little soulmate.

“They had a photo of a group of dogs and we emailed right away and wrote that we would be available to foster any of them.

We received an email straight back saying, please come in and pick up a dog.

We went to the Social Tees office and they said, hi, here’s Tina and her sister, Tuleh.

We haven’t split them up yet, so would you mind taking them both?”

“We had her for three weeks and then adopted her ourselves.

We fell in love with her and started calling her, our Tina.

As a foster care giver, you are required to take them to adoption events.

I took her and she met all these potential adopters.

I cried my eyes out.

I called my husband during lunch and asked if we could adopt her, ourselves.”

“When they post new dogs, a foster care giver clicks on the link to come down and pick up the dog, if the care giver is available.

That is exactly what we did with Tina.

Six dogs had just arrived from the Dominican Republic that needed fostering.

We were in the first six responders, and went downtown that night to foster Tina.”

“My husband and I wanted a dog for years, but it’s never been the right time.

We originally fostered Tina, for Social Tees.

We thought we’d start off by fostering, before adopting.

I started following Social Tees on Instagram, and then my husband and I applied to be foster care givers.

We were approved straight away.”
