PENNY, THE DACHSHUND MIX FROM RESCUE DOGS ROCK (PART 4, SHE SAID)

IMG_6841

“Penny has given our family an extra sweetness, like adding a jewel to a necklace.

She added a new dimension to our relationship and family unit.

We are her only two people–we made a promise and it’s a responsibility we love.

She came to us with some health problems, digestive issues; she couldn’t keep any food down, and we worried about her.

She had to have an endoscopy and it took several months to resolve.

Thankfully, she is fine.”

CHARLIE MEATBALL, THE RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK RESCUE MIX (SHE SAID, PART 3)

“We all got in the car and my sister drove us to the first event, which was the furthest away, but they didn’t have any puppies so I was ready to leave.

My ex saw this dog that he wanted to meet.

He was being walked on a leash so we thought he belonged to someone, but he was indeed up for adoption.

We talked to the people at Petco, where the event was being held to ask about the health history of the dog called, Lyle.

He was really sick and emaciated.

They told us that he was a rescue from Texas.”

Scout, the Labrador Retriever that brought joy to a family (part 7)

“After having four kids, with one already out the door, getting Scout is like having a new two year old.

She has added a new layer to our nuclear family.

We have met new people and made new friends through having Scout.

She has introduced us to an entire subculture.”

“The kids love to play with her, and they help with the walking when they can.

We also have given in to getting a dog walker sometimes because it takes the pressure off of us.

I can take the kids to activities like soccer or dance after school without worrying about running home to walk her.”

My older son wanted a dog.

I have two boys and two girls.

He is the second oldest.

He’s a teenager and he seemed a little depressed and it seemed like getting a dog would be a good thing.

Of all my kids, he doesn’t ask for a lot.”

Milo, the Pomsky (Pomeranian/Husky Mix), (part 6, she said)

“Milo has also made us more of a family.

We take walks together, look for dog parks together and have become social with other dog owners.

All in all, Milo has expanded our world.”

Leroy, the Maltipoo (Maltese/Poodle Mix), (part 4)

“We’ve had a lot of losses.

Their have been deaths in our families, and friends, too.

Leroy has been there for us.

He gives us snuggles and love and I really believe he knows when we are sad or sick.

He instantly calms down and curls up on our lap or chest.”

Susu, the French Bulldog that provided comfort and stability (part 1)

“I think I’ve always been attracted to Frenchies.

I had just made a move to Las Vegas.

I was single and I planned to be there for a while, so I thought it was time to get the dog that I always wanted.

I got Susu on the spur of the moment.

Looking back, I would love to have gone through a breeder or adopted a rescue, but I was young and naive, so I got Susu at a pet store.

I had just gone through a tough breakup and my sister and I walked into a pet store just to look around, hoping it would cheer me up.”

Barcley, the Irish Terrier that keeps life light and appreciates the little things (part 3)

“I was lucky because someone backed out and I got Barcley.

Since having Barcley, I went through a job change.

I went from having a structured schedule to a more flexible one.

Barcley has been a great distraction.

He gets me out into the neighborhood and helps me connect with people I would never have met before, when I had a rigid work schedule.”

Ellie (short for elephant), the French Bulldog that is an entertaining clown, and great comfort (part 5)

“Time is malleable in your head but seeing something tangible, like the growth and aging of a dog helps to serve as a point of reference.

Sometimes my sister’s passing feels like yesterday, and other times it seems like a long time ago.

Ellie helps me focus on the time at hand.

She is pretty much my dog, so she is my job.

I would recommend people who are going through something emotional, like a drastic change in their life to get a dog.”
