CHARLIE MEATBALL, THE RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK MIX RESCUE (SHE SAID, PART 6)

“Charlie ended up having heart worm.

He was under exercise restriction and had to have daily shots in his front leg muscle for 6 months.

The best and worst time we’ve had with Charlie was after moving to NYC when we left him with my ex’s mom because we both had jobs, but didn’t have a place to live.

We couch surfed for two weeks until we found an apartment.

We were without Charlie for two months, until Christmas.

Coming back to NYC with Charlie was the happiest day of his life.

He and my ex are still extremely attached, but Charlie lives with me.

Ridgebacks are one dog owners, but this Rhodesian has two.”

“A woman had driven by him day after day and noticed that he was tied up, his body was fly bitten, emaciated and deteriorating.

One day she knocked on the owners’ door and asked if she could take him home with her.

They told her, take him.

He was transported to Denver, where we lived at the time, and saw him at the Petco adoption event.”

DIEGO, AS IN DIEGO RIVERA (HE SAID, PART 5)

“We took him to our regular veterinarian and he needed to be crated for 3 months and we gave him different meds around the clock.  That was a difficult time.

When Diego comes back from his walks he runs in and tears around the apartment, really happy to be home–here.”

“My wife and I board dogs sometimes and Diego is the best concierge.  He is happy to see other dogs, shares his food and his dog bed, too.

He likes the company.

Diego had a pinched nerve in his back and I took him to the animal hospital on the east side.  They thought it was no big deal but he was still screaming in pain.”

“When we got to our apartment, his new home, the first thing he did was pee in the bedroom.

He was never trained to walk on a leash and he was just let out in the backyard to do his business.

He still has irrational fear sometimes on our walks, but he is the least aggressive dog you will meet.”

Jojo, the Beloved French Bulldog, Shared by Two People (part 4)

“One night Jojo jumped off the bed and his legs gave out from under him.

I knew he was in distress because he was panting heavily and he couldn’t walk.

I rushed him to the Animal Hospital, Blue Pearl and they operated on his spine the next morning.

It took four to five months for him to heal, and he is as recovered as he will ever be.

He can run and fetch, climb up on rocks, and ride on the bike.

He can’t jump off of anything, play tug of war, and he can’t wrestle.

Jojo is my best buddy.

I take him with me everywhere.”
