“I had Nikki 2 years and she was queen bee of the house and then the dynamic of the house changed.

I met my girlfriend and Nikki fell in love with her, then I fell in love with her.

And then we got Winston, a Sheba-Enu and the family unit became complete (for now).

Winston was an impulse love at first sight dog.  And then he turned out to be a huge pain in the ass.”

“We went online looking for a Vizsla to rescue and came across a site that had a Vizsla mix.

That dog was adopted, but we saw a photograph of Scarlet and we decided to rescue her from a kill shelter in North Carolina.

We didn’t want to bring Scarlet home right away so we introduced her to Preston in a neutral zone in Brooklyn and within 15 minutes they were playing together.

They have been best friends ever since.”

“We got Preston as a result of a sad event.

We’ve always had Vizsla’s and Preston is our third.

Our first Vizsla, Lucas died at 15 years old, and we got a puppy soon after, called Theo.

We were on vacation and Theo was hit by a car at 20 months and died instantly.

We were devastated and a breeder friend of ours called and said he had a male Vizsla that was a six month old failed show dog that needed a home.”

“He felt a connection to Riley.

She was happy and playful.

We adopted her eight months ago.

She has sever separation anxiety.

We have worked with trainers and medications and nothing has helped.

It hasn’t been like anything we have ever experienced before.”

Jack, the Shepherd, Rottweiler, Labrador, Great Dane, Chow, Pit Bull, Swiss Mountain Dog, Terrier Mix Sidekick (part 5)

“Jack has taught me a lot about taking care of another being.

On stressful days, he’s what I look forward to when coming home.

A partner has to love him, in addition to loving me.

He’s part of the  package.”

“I found his picture through a rescue group in Tennessee called Moonshine Dog Rescue.

If you committed to buying one of their dogs, they promised transporting the dog up east.

Once I committed to adopting Jack, another rescue group called Alpha dog Transport brought him from the scout, it a tractor trailer full of dogs from different rescue groups to a designated are off route 80 in New Jersey.”

Roxanne, the International Rhodesian Ridgeback Puppy (she said, part 1)

“At first I picked a Ridgeback for aesthetic reasons and after looking into it, I found that they are also very good natured and loving.

I did a lot of research online and I bought a book about the character, history and training of Rhodesians; a very depth analysis of the breed.

About a year and a half after doing research and looking into puppies, I found the right breeder at the right time.”

Einstein, The Miniature Schnauzer From Amsterdam, That is a Great Comfort to His People (Part 5, He Said)

IMG_1718

“The dedicated dog runs and off leash hours makes having a dog much easier.

There’s also a lot more socialization with other dogs.

I have noticed that people love dogs.

In fact, I think people like dogs more than humans.

My wife and I are grateful to have a dog being a long way from home (Australia), and moving to a new city.”

“They served a specialty called Bitterballen, which is deep fried potato balls with gravy.

It’s not my favorite food, but we ate them out of courtesy, hoping it would help with the interview.

We passed the interview and got to see the litter.

There were only two puppies left, and luckily one of them was our favorite– Einstein.”

“They don’t have the same breed rescue groups in Holland, so she found a breeder with a litter available.

They were quite particular, which led to an interview.

We are Australian, so it was more of a cultural interview.

They asked a few questions about our lifestyle over a cup of tea and lunch.

Their daughter was present as a translator because they only spoke Dutch and we spoke English.”
