CHEWIE, THE BORDER COLLIE/MINI AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD LIFESAVER (PART 3)

FullSizeRender-13

“Chewie helped me through a tough time.

I was depressed and she helped me get out of the house whether I wanted to or not.

Walking a dog 3 or 4 times a day gives me clarity.  It makes me feel like whatever is troubling me is going to be okay.

The routine gives me something to do, and my focus is on something other than myself.”

STELLA, THE EMPATHETIC BORDER COLLIE (PART 5, SHE SAID)

“Stella licked my tears away.

It was a simple moment, yet she made my anguish disappear.

I focused, instead of crying, and I found myself and where I needed to be.

It was magical.”

Stella is dependent on me, but she is also a great comfort.

I know that she is always here for me.

Once I was driving I got lost.

My phone battery died and I had no GPS.

I had no way of getting in touch with my boyfriend.

I was frustrated and frightened.”

“We used to travel a lot.

Now we alternate traveling or we board her.

I miss her when we go away, but I know she is happy.

She is always happy.

When I miss my family she helps me.

After we Skype, she is always close to my body.

She makes me feel less lonely when I miss them.”

“Stella is part of my family now.

She loves me unconditionally.

She’s so cute and I know she depends on me.

I have my family back in Brazil, but she makes me feel like we are building our own family here.

She is almost like having a kid.”

“Stella is my boyfriend’s dog.

I met him after he got her.

When I met him I thought it would be a challenge to have a dog in the city.

Not only because it’s expensive, but because we are young, it’s not practical and we travel.

She ties us down.

We have a schedule with her.

We have to be home to feed and walk her

This is how I felt, before meeting Stella and getting attached to her.”

BUDDY & OZZIE, The Rescue Beagle and Hound Dogs That Keep Each Other Company (PART 1)

“My boyfriend was living with me and he was really against getting a dog.  He thought it was too much work.

It was something I wanted for a long time.

After he moved out, I started looking for a dog.

I got Buddy the day after my 30th birthday.  He was my birthday present to myself.

LILY, THE BLACK LABRADOR WHO WAS MEANT TO BE A HUNTING DOG (PART 2)

“I told him I would take her hunting.

Of course I had never been hunting before.

Cut to six months later, my father and I had our Elmer Fudd hats on, following Lily around with hunting guns.

That day, the birds and other animals were safe, that’s for sure.

Several years later, I can now say, Lily is a good hunter.”

Shy, the 18 year old rescue Beagle, Whippet, Spaniel, whose given birthday is Valentine’s Day (part 1)

“My family had dogs growing up.

I am a nurse and wanted to help rehabilitate a dog from the pound.

I visited a lot of animal shelters in Baltimore, where I was living at the time.

When I looked in one of the cages, I saw Shy, who was all the way in the back and wouldn’t even lift her head, while other dogs were jumping up, ready to go out of the cage.”

HARRY AND MILLY, THE PAPILLONS THAT MAKE AN EMPTY NEST MORE BEARABLE (PART 1)

“I got my dogs for companionship.

I always had big dogs and this time I wanted an active small dog.

I just wanted something different.

I am a petite person and I didn’t want anything so strong.

I also wanted a dog that could sit on my lap.

I just liked the way Papillon’s look.”
