OTIS, THE COMICAL PUG (PART 4)

fullsizerender-34

“The best part of having Otis has been meeting friends and learning about my neighborhood.

He has been my key to the upper west side of Manhattan.

He inspires me to get out and explore.

while walking with Otis I am looking at the architecture, talking to tourists,

and taking the time to smell the flowers when he does.

I am not as focused on getting from one place to another in a rush.  I’ve learned to take my time.

He balances me emotionally, because he’s so happy all the time, and his life is so simple.

I realized I needed to take a page out of his book.”

“The worst think about having him is how needy he is.

This breed is a needy one.

Otis is always under foot.  I can’t even go to the bathroom without him being by my side.

If I shut the bathroom door, or any door, he cries and bangs on the door.

I’ve gotten used to  him watching me on the toilet.

It’s the easiest option and he doesn’t judge me.”

“Their faces were comical and made me giggle.

They seemed low maintenance.

All lies.

You can never do enough homework.

Pugs shed, whine, drool and are chewers.

I wasn’t prepared for all of that, but I decided that he’s my puppy child, and it is what it is.

If people don’t like it, they don’t have to come over.

It’s Otis’s house.”

“I sold my big house in New Jersey where I raised my children and my pets died about a year before that.

I moved to New York City with my husband after he retired, leaving my friends and family and needed a new wingman (so to speak).

I wanted a dog that was still dog-sized, but easy enough to travel with.

After I moved and began to walk around the neighborhood, I  was drawn to the Pug breed.”

SILKA, THE BLACK LAB MIX RESCUE FROM THE WEST CHESTER HUMANE SOCIETY (DAUGHTER SAID, PART 3)

“We were torn between Silka and one other, but my mother suggested we go with our first instinct and the reason we were there in the first place.

We adopted Silka and brought her home that day.

That was two years ago.

The only hard part since getting Silka has been her teething phase, which she is still going through.

She used to bite us and it was hard for her to stop.”

“We had a picture in our minds of what we wanted our dog to look like and she fit the bill.

It was love at first sight from the photograph.

We drove up to the shelter the next day to meet her.

We were offered a room where people meet and play with potential puppies and dogs to adopt.

When we first met her and her siblings, they all jumped at us.”

”I’ve always wanted a dog and finally my parents said, we are going to get a dog.

I was 15 at the time and lived at home.

That was two years ago.

My family adopted her from the Westchester Humane Society.

We were looking at dogs on their website and a photo of Silka popped up.

The angle of the photo made her look slender and very unique.”

Norman, the Goofy Shepherd/Husky Puppy That Makes Everyone Laugh (part 3)

“I fell in love with his ears and smile.

He was being fostered by a couple on the upper east side and we met up an adoption event at Petco.

We brought our dog Hannah with us to see how they would get along.

Norman rolled over and was submissive towards Hanna, so we thought it was a good match.”

Scout, the Labrador Retriever that brought joy to a family (part 7)

“After having four kids, with one already out the door, getting Scout is like having a new two year old.

She has added a new layer to our nuclear family.

We have met new people and made new friends through having Scout.

She has introduced us to an entire subculture.”

“The kids love to play with her, and they help with the walking when they can.

We also have given in to getting a dog walker sometimes because it takes the pressure off of us.

I can take the kids to activities like soccer or dance after school without worrying about running home to walk her.”
