“The best thing is having them both together.

It’s rewarding watching them complement each other.  Nikki has made Winston more affectionate and Winston has made Nikki more playful.”

The worst thing is that we travel a lot and there is nothing worse than walking into an empty house.”

Roxanne, the International Rhodesian Ridgeback Puppy (she said, part 2)

“I moved to the U.S. from Germany, and the breeder that I chose was in Texas.

It all happened very fast.

I liked that they were a large family that lived on a farm and were home breeders.

They were definitely not a puppy mill.

She was already 12 weeks old and came home with me the following week.

It took a while for her find a home because she has a hernia.”

Gracie, the Chihuahua and Boscoe, the Pit Bull Terrier, Rescues (part 3)

“Our vet wasn’t sure he could save Boscoe’s leg because the bullet was lodged in the elbow of his leg, making surgery difficult.

I found a specialist and he had surgery the next day.

That was two years ago and he is fully recovered and trots like a horse.

The second time I moved to Texas I bought a trailer park as an investment and there was a tenant who just let his dogs run amok on the property.

One of his friend’s chihuahua mated with a neighbors’ terrier and Gracie was one of the puppies.”

“I rescued my big guy Boscoe, from a shelter in Texas outside Dallas, called It’s Raining Cats and Dogs.

It was a rescue group based out of Cabela’s, a sporting goods store.

I had seen a white Pit with blue eyes the year before.

I remembered that dog and inquired with the group to see if they still had the white Pit with blue eyes.

The head of the rescue group said they had two white pits with blue eyes, so my husband and I went down and looked at them.”

Rosie, the Newfie Doodle Mix (Newfoundland Poodle) She said, part 1

“I am a researcher by trade, and am really into dogs.

I always had labradors or lab mixes growing up.

I did research into the genealogy of labradors and found out that labradors were originally bred from Newfoundlanders, and a lot of the traits that I loved about labs came from Newfies.

I wanted a Newfoundland really badly, but I found out they are heavy shedders, droolers, and don’t do well in heat.”

Dodger, the Schnauzer Terrier mix, Rescued from the CACC (Center for Animal Care and Control)(part 3)

“I didn’t mind those things because i was ready for anything from a shelter dog.

it was love at first sight, when I met Dodger.

I am sure he was a little shy, but he was very sweet.

All he needed was a little TLC.

He’s so sensitive and has been amazing during any romantic breakups I’ve gone through.

I went through a breakup in January and he was always right next to my leg.”

Anubis, the Papillon/Chihuahua mix and Dima, the Pomeranian/Husky mix (part 6)

IMG_2327-2

“I am really busy with school as is my girlfriend.

We are also busy with work, and sometimes it’s difficult to take care of them.

We often discuss which one of us will do the last walk at night because we are both tired and want to go to sleep.

It’s always me, but she does the morning walk, so it all works out.”

“The litter was running around in open farmland and playing with one another.

I met the litter and spotted him immediately, because he was the only one with different colored eyes.

I got to pick him up, and I loved him right away.

He was less fluffy and looked more wild.

I didn’t see the Pomeranian in him, but I didn’t care.”

Kiwi, the Chipoo – Chihuahua/Poodle Mix (he said, part 1)

“I’ve always had dogs.

I grew up with them in San Diego, California.

I had two or three at the same time, and they were all different sizes–

usually, one large and one or two small dogs.

I have been dating my girlfriend for about five years and my love for dogs has rubbed off on her.”

Willow, the rottweiler, boxer, beagle, chow chow, terrier mix rescue (part 2)

“The got a lot of healthy dogs from a kill shelter in Kentucky.

I started following their website to see when they got new dogs.

I put in an application after I saw Willow’s picture, and was approved right away.

I met her for the first time when I picked her up from the shelter.”
