MURPHY, THE BLUETICK COONHOUND/BORDER COLLIE MIX RESCUE FROM A KILL SHELTER (PART 5)

fullsizerender-134

“Murphy helps me to relax.

I found a lump in my breast and felt instantly afraid, without any instant resolution.

I had two weeks of living in fear, but Murphy helped take my mind off of what was happening with me.

Murphy also makes me laugh.

He is still a puppy so he’s very clumsy and friendly.”

“Two things have happened since I’ve had Murphy.

My father is much older and suffers from a neurological disorder and he got very sick.

It was very scary.

When I would cry, Murphy would come right up to me and snuggle.”

OLIVE, THE FRENCH BULLDOG THAT WANTS TO PLAY 24/7 (PART 2)

“I say that it’s like living with a toddler.

She wants to play 24/7.

I started doing research into rescuing a Frenchie but I realized pretty quickly that the ones available to rescue usually had either health or behavioral issues.

I realized that I wasn’t the best owner for that situation.”

TALLULAH, THE YELLOW LABRADOR RETRIEVER/WHIPPET RESCUE (PART 5)

“In general, just in my last year of college when I didn’t have any roommates and I decided to live alone in New York, she has been my only roommate and companion and it’s great because she is there for me every step of the way.

When I transition, she transitions.

She’s something familiar and provides me with a real sense of stability.”

OTIS, THE COMICAL PUG (PART 4)

“The best part of having Otis has been meeting friends and learning about my neighborhood.

He has been my key to the upper west side of Manhattan.

He inspires me to get out and explore.

while walking with Otis I am looking at the architecture, talking to tourists,

and taking the time to smell the flowers when he does.

I am not as focused on getting from one place to another in a rush.  I’ve learned to take my time.

He balances me emotionally, because he’s so happy all the time, and his life is so simple.

I realized I needed to take a page out of his book.”

TWIGGY, THE ITALIAN GREYHOUND/CHIHUAHUA MIX RESCUE (PART 5)

IMG_5556

“I am lucky to have such understanding neighbors.

I received a note under my door the first time I left her alone saying, your dog has been barking and crying the entire time you were gone. It was so sad, the next time you leave, please just drop her off with us.

We leave her with the family next door, but I don’t want to take advantage of them.

I have been considering bark busters, but am trying to leave her alone for short intervals of time and build up to longer periods.

Twiggy has become the emphasis of our lives.

We are devoted to her and she is devoted to us.”

CHEWIE, THE BORDER COLLIE/AUSSIE LIFESAVER (PART 2)

“I went on the internet and searched and found a breeder in New Jersey.

I waited a few months for Chewie to be born, and then another few months to take him home.

We both felt like we belonged together from the moment I brought her home.

Chewie helped me through a tough time.

I was depressed and she helped me get out of the house whether I wanted to or not.”

IKE, THE RESCUE BOXER, CHOW, COLLIE, LAB AND HOUND MIX (PART 4, SHE SAID)

“He’s also a great companion.

We go on hikes in Montauk on a weekly basis.

We both get a little depressed on Monday, when it’s time to come back to the city.”

“They watch Ike when we go out of town, sometimes.

Ike has changed my life as a stay at home mom with a tweenage daughter.

He has given me a new purpose.

Caring for Ike gets me out of the house and meeting new people.

I can be a bit of an introvert, and Ike has gotten me out of my shell, so to speak.”

Gracie, the Chihuahua and Boscoe, the Pit Bull Terrier, Rescues (part 5)

IMG_4873

“I love being with my animals, especially my little one.

She brings me such peace that I call her my therapy dog.

Boscoe is a big snuggle bunny and he is a very sweet dog.

Obviously, I can’t take him everywhere with me because of his size, but he is a great dog.

I am thankful that I have never had a difficult time since having them, but the hustle and bustle of selling real estate can be stressful and clients can be difficult, so coming home to Boscoe and Gracie is therapeutic.

It’s either red wine or fur-babies, and sometimes both.”
