Preston, the Failed Show Dog Rescue, And Scarlet, the Black Labrador Mix, Rescue (Part 2)

“We went to Pennsylvania, adopted him and called him Preston.

Preston got us through our mourning period and we gave him a new (free) life.

He had been crated, going from show to show, and he was now free.

Two years after we got Preston, (I had always wanted two dogs), we were looking to rescue a dog as a companion for Preston, as well as loving dogs.”

Roxanne, the International Rhodesian Ridgeback Puppy (she said, part 1)

“At first I picked a Ridgeback for aesthetic reasons and after looking into it, I found that they are also very good natured and loving.

I did a lot of research online and I bought a book about the character, history and training of Rhodesians; a very depth analysis of the breed.

About a year and a half after doing research and looking into puppies, I found the right breeder at the right time.”

Gracie, the Chihuahua and Boscoe, the Pit Bull Terrier, Rescues (part 1)

“I rescued my big guy Boscoe, from a shelter in Texas outside Dallas, called It’s Raining Cats and Dogs.

It was a rescue group based out of Cabela’s, a sporting goods store.

I had seen a white Pit with blue eyes the year before.

I remembered that dog and inquired with the group to see if they still had the white Pit with blue eyes.

The head of the rescue group said they had two white pits with blue eyes, so my husband and I went down and looked at them.”

Stella, the Peaceful Puppy Hound Rescue From Palmetto Paws That Bonded A Couple (She Said, Part 5)

“After hearing her story, we wanted her mom, but I knew that I wasn’t experienced enough to rescue a dog who has been through trauma because I’ve never owned my own dog.

We chose Stella.

It felt right because she’s my first dog and we are her family.

We’ve had her since August of 2017.

Since having her, some of our best times were when we were establishing a bond with Stella by teaching her commands and tricks.”

“We found out her mom was dumped in a High School Football field and they didn’t know how long she had been there.

A good samaritan called the ACC (Animal Control Center) and got her mom to a rescue group, where they realized she was pregnant.

Luckily, her mom gave birth under the care of a veterinarian with the rescue group and she delivered nine healthy puppies.”

“I saw an adoption event at Petco and thought, I am just going to browse.

Well, that never works.

I showed interest in a few dogs and took each one for a walk, but didn’t really feel a connection with any of them.

Then I saw a little puppy curled up in a ball.

She was the most peaceful one there..

I asked if I could hold her, and right away she smothered me with kisses.

In a sense, I felt she chose me.”

Rosie, the Newfie Doodle Mix (Newfoundland Poodle) She said, part 5

“I made a spread sheet dog friendly apartments on the Upper West Side.

We finally found a prewar building near a subway station, as well as Central Park.

We have only been in NYC for 2 1/2 weeks.

Rosie is doing well as far as adjusting to her new home and city.

The biggest challenge is her wanting to only to the bathroom on grass.”

“I am a researcher by trade, and am really into dogs.

I always had labradors or lab mixes growing up.

I did research into the genealogy of labradors and found out that labradors were originally bred from Newfoundlanders, and a lot of the traits that I loved about labs came from Newfies.

I wanted a Newfoundland really badly, but I found out they are heavy shedders, droolers, and don’t do well in heat.”

Mabel, The Jindo,Cairn Terrier, Chihuahua Rescue from Korea (He said, Part 3)

“Honestly, it was scary, because we didn’t know what we were doing.

We learned by trial and error and reading the internet.

We became our veterinarian’s best customer.

You hear stories about new parents calling Dr.’s all the time, and it was basically the same thing.

She doesn’t eat regularly and we were so worried that we bought 10 different types of food.

We got her about five months ago and have come a long way, though we still worry that we are doing things right.”

Dodger, the Schnauzer Terrier mix, Rescued from the CACC (Center for Animal Care and Control)(part 4)

“Dodger was glued to me more than normal during that time.

If I was crying, he would put his head on my chest.

As I said, he is very sensitive.

Some days when it’s tough to get out of bed in the morning, I always have a good reason.

I always have a best friend.”

The one difficult thing about Dodger is skateboarders and rollerbladers.

They make him nervous and angry.

I feel like he’s an old man saying, get off my lawn.”
