“Our daughter had been asking for a dog for ten years and my husband was adamantly against having a dog in the city.

Then one day he said, yes.

During a frigid winter two years ago, we decided we would wait until May, but two weeks into March we saw this beautiful dog being walking in Tribeca.”

“Going on these walks makes it able to see how pushing through her challenges has paid off.

Our walks are a mutual understanding of what we do in the morning and represent the respect we have for each other, as well as her accomplishments.

It’s a great way to spend the morning and we both love it.

Joy Rides is an amazing organization.

They transported Bailey and hundreds of thousands of other dogs from kill shelters in the south and bring them up north for adoption.”

“Bailey finally understands that I run.

She does her own thing, but always catches up with me.

It’s so much fun to see the progress that she’s made.

It was hard for her to adjust to living in the city coming from a shelter in Texas.

She had bad separation anxiety.

We worked with a trainer, took classes, and it required a lot of patience.”

“We took her home that day.

She is great in the city, but was originally saved from a kill shelter in Texas.

Bailey is the focal point of our family.

Everything we do revolves around her.

Now that we’ve had her for almost a year, she has settled into our daily routine.

My favorite think to do, is go for our early morning walk in Central Park, where she is off-leash.”

“My husband and I applied right away.

They checked out our references pretty quickly and then we went to meet her.

It was definitely love at first sight.

We didn’t want to go home without her.”

“I’ve always volunteered for different animal organizations.

Guiding eyes for the blind was one, and more recently, Bad Ass Brooklyn Rescue.

Working with the rescue animals inspired me to adopt a rescue dog.

I followed a number of rescue organizations on Instagram and saw an image of Bailey on See Spot Rescued, and I fell in love with her.”

“Willow changed my personal travel schedule and now I spend a lot more time in NYC.

Before I got her, I worked in London and other cities, but I try to be home as much as possible.

Having her encourages me to have more stability in my life.”

“The got a lot of healthy dogs from a kill shelter in Kentucky.

I started following their website to see when they got new dogs.

I put in an application after I saw Willow’s picture, and was approved right away.

I met her for the first time when I picked her up from the shelter.”

“My daughter was the reason we got Ike.

I thought she shouldn’t grow up without a dog.

We met Ike on the street and that put the wheel in motion.  We were just walking to dinner and encountered him.  He was very friendly and his foster dad said, he was up for adoption.

I had to come to grips with my reasons for not getting a dog.

Primarily, I thought the city is not a place for a big dog, and I only wanted a big dog.

Also, we travel a lot, I didn’t want to pick up poop, and I just didn’t want another responsibility.

But that was only partially the reason, the other being that I hadn’t gotten over the loss of my last dog.”

“Caring for Ike gets me out of the house and meeting new people.

I can be a bit of an introvert, and Ike has gotten me out of my shell, so to speak.

He’s also a great companion.

We go on hikes in Montauk on a weekly basis.

We both get a little depressed on Monday, when it’s time to come back to the city.”
