Stella, the Peaceful Puppy Hound Rescue From Palmetto Paws That Bonded A Couple (She Said, Part 2)

“I saw an adoption event at Petco and thought, I am just going to browse.

Well, that never works.

I showed interest in a few dogs and took each one for a walk, but didn’t really feel a connection with any of them.

Then I saw a little puppy curled up in a ball.

She was the most peaceful one there..

I asked if I could hold her, and right away she smothered me with kisses.

In a sense, I felt she chose me.”

“They don’t have the same breed rescue groups in Holland, so she found a breeder with a litter available.

They were quite particular, which led to an interview.

We are Australian, so it was more of a cultural interview.

They asked a few questions about our lifestyle over a cup of tea and lunch.

Their daughter was present as a translator because they only spoke Dutch and we spoke English.”

“My wife and I were a long way from home and just missed that family vibe in the house.

She did a lot of research.

She grew up with Mini-Schnauzers and felt comfortable with them.

She got her first mini-schnauzer when she was seven and decided that was the dog of choice for us.

We bought him in the Netherlands.”

“I knew having a dog would enhance my life, because the last one did.

You become part of a community,

It’s like having another child.

All the things you do with you with a kid, you do with a dog; training, caring, socializing, being responsible for another living being.”

“There are so many little things that I enjoy about having Java.

I love teaching him new tricks and watching him learn.

In the morning, when the alarm goes off, he jumps on the bed in between my wife and me and let’s us scratch and pet him for a good 10-15 minutes.

I also love watching him play and interact with other dogs.”

“For me, Tina is the first taste of having to be responsible for another being and loving it unconditionally.

My wife, Tina and I feel like a proper family unit, now.

Having a dog is a beautiful and enriching experience. “

“It’s just so comforting to come home after work to such a loving dog.

We went home to the U.K. for three weeks over Christmas, and had to leave her in NYC.

We missed her so much.

I came back before my wife, and when I picked her up from the dog sitter, we were both so happy to see each other.

Tina leapt into my arms.”

“My job involves me traveling quite a bit, and my wife rang me in tears after an adoption event while I was away.

She couldn’t bear the thought of giving up Tina.

When I got home, we emailed Social Tees right away and said, we wanted to adopt Tina.

That was it; she was ours.

She quickly became part of our family.”

MABEL, THE JINDO,CAIRN TERRIER, CHIHUAHUA RESCUE FROM KOREA (SHE SAID, PART 3)

When I held her, she rested her chin on my arm and I fell in love with her.

I asked myself for a split second, if I was ready and my husband said, she’s the one.

Now I see myself as her parent, and I am there for her, with whatever she needs.

My husband and I come together and we are a team for Mabel.

She has become our priority.

Having Mabel has taught me to think beyond myself, and I love being able to take care of her.

Giving her love and receiving unconditional love back has been a blessing.”

“I pretty much knew at that moment that I wanted her.

That was in August and I picked her up a month later.

Ellie has been great for my parents and me.

It’s a new life in our house.

I think it’s good to keep busy when you are grieving.

Before I got Ellie, I was just alone, thinking about my sister all the time.

Ellie is a responsibility so she has helped me get out of my house physically, as well as my head emotionally.”
