Tina, The Italian Greyhound/Terrier/Whippet/Beagle Mix Rescue From Social Tees (He Said, Part 7)

“For me, Tina is the first taste of having to be responsible for another being and loving it unconditionally.

My wife, Tina and I feel like a proper family unit, now.

Having a dog is a beautiful and enriching experience. “

“My job involves me traveling quite a bit, and my wife rang me in tears after an adoption event while I was away.

She couldn’t bear the thought of giving up Tina.

When I got home, we emailed Social Tees right away and said, we wanted to adopt Tina.

That was it; she was ours.

She quickly became part of our family.”

Willow, the rottweiler, boxer, beagle, chow chow, terrier mix rescue (part 2)

“The got a lot of healthy dogs from a kill shelter in Kentucky.

I started following their website to see when they got new dogs.

I put in an application after I saw Willow’s picture, and was approved right away.

I met her for the first time when I picked her up from the shelter.”

Penny, the Dachshund Mix From Rescue Dogs Rock (part 5, she said)

“No matter what kind of day we are having, at the end of the day, our pack will go to sleep in our den.

We originally thought we would have a no dog on the furniture policy, but Penny obliterated that quickly.

Now we all snuggle together on the bed.

Her favorite spot is between our faces on the bed.

I like to say, she is the statement, we are the parentheses.

We are hoping to get her in the Good Dog Foundation.

They train dogs and handlers to go into hospitals and other care facilities to bring companionship and joy to people having a hard time.

Penny is great with kids, so we would like to focus on having her become a service dog for pediatrics.”

Ginkgo, the soon to be world traveling mutt (part 1)

“Ginkgo is mutt from the Kent Animal Shelter in Riverhead, Long Island.

I am going to circumnavigate on a sailboat and I will need protection, as well as a companion.

She will be more of an alert dog, than a protector.

I knew I needed a small dog because I will be on a small boat and Ginkgo was the only small dog at the shelter.

I’ve had her for four years.”

Amelia, the rescue terrier mix from Los Angeles (part 2)

“Amelia has a wonderful, curious spirit and she’s easy going.

I knew she would be great to travel with, and I was right.

We traveled a lot when I first got her and she was always well behaved.

My boyfriend and I were living apart when I first got Amelia, so waking up to her made being apart from him easier.

She has been a great comfort and a wonderful companion.

I lived in Los Angeles with Amelia for a year before we moved to New York to live ¬†with my boyfriend and become a family.”

“I had been looking at different rescue organizations on social media for about a year.

I saw Amelia and her three sisters up for adoption on MaeDay Rescue.

All of her sisters were adopted but Amelia was still at the rescue organization two weeks later.

I felt it was meant to be.

I was living in Los Angeles at the time, and there were so many wonderful dogs that needed homes.

After spending a weekend trial with Amelia, I knew she was special and there was no way I could have brought her back.”

Lola, the Corgi, Border Collie, Australian Shepherd mix (he said, part 3)

“My son was watching tv and feeding her raisins.

We had to rush her to the vet because my girlfriend and I knew it was dangerous.

The vet had to induce vomiting and put her on fluids for hydration.

We now have a list of food on the refrigerator, and the kids learned a valuable lesson.

One of the ways Lola has changed my life is that I feel more grounded.

In a divorce situation it’s strange having children come and go (for both the parents and the kids), and having Lola all the time has helped smooth out the waves.

One more thing– I recommend adopting and supporting your local shelter.”

“My boyfriend and I had been discussing getting a dog and I took his kids into a store at Columbus Circle to buy him a Father’s Day present.

While we were shopping, he found the North Shore Animal League Adoption Truck.

He called me and said, you need to come out here as soon as you’re done because I want to show you something.

That something was Lola.

We all walked into the truck and there was lots of encouragement from the kids to get a dog.

It was a fairly impulsive buy.

That was a year ago, Father’s Day.”

Olive, the Bassett Hound, Staffordshire Terrier mix (part 2)

“Before the dogs were transported up to New York the rescue group posted a video of Olive and her sister Katy.

When they got here, my son said, we should visit Olive first.

He had a gut feeling.

We visited her and her foster family in Brooklyn and that was it.

She was three or four months old and was so friendly that we said, we’ve got to get this dog.

She is a year now.

The hardest thing for me was house training her.

It takes patience.

I thought it would take a couple of weeks, but it took a few months.

She pee’d on the rug for a few months.

We had to learn her body rhythms.

It finally paid off.”
