“Dima (the Pomsky) always looks like he’s smiling and it makes me want to grin too.

Anubis (the Chion) loves everybody and was excited to make a new friend when we brought Dima home.

Dima takes time to warm up to people and it took him time to get used to living with Anubis.

Now, they love each other and he even lets Anubis in his crate.

He knows Anubis always wants to be near someone.

They are best friends.”

“The litter was running around in open farmland and playing with one another.

I met them and spotted him immediately, because he was the only one with different colored eyes.

I got to pick him up, and I loved him right away.

He was less fluffy and looked more wild.

I didn’t see the Pomeranian in him, but I didn’t care.”

BUDDY & OZZIE, The Rescue Beagle and Hound Dogs That Keep Each Other Company (PART 5)

“I didn’t know what beagles were like so I had no idea what energy they have.  I thought because he was a little bit older that he would be calm.  I tried to keep him contained in a pen and that didn’t work.

Once I put him on the patio while I was cleaning the floor and he broke through the plastic screen covering a window, so he made his own doggie door.

Buddy is more concerned with what I am doing and Ozzie is concerned with what Buddy is doing.

The only scare I had with Ozzie was when he ate chocolate pudding, but he was okay.

There was never any jealously between them.  They know their pecking order.”

“All the while I looked on the Bowling Green rescue dog websites because Buddy was from Bowling Green, Kentucky.

I spoke to the woman from the same rescue group, and they had a 7 year old pocket Beagle that was listed under the Urgent category. He was at a kill shelter and looked like he just needed somebody.  He was skinny, really scared, and had fleas.  The rescue group said that he looked like he had been on his own for a while.

They drove him up to NYC from Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Then I saw him, and he was not what I expected.

He was full of energy and squirming around.”

“There was an event at the Petco near my apartment and Buddy was the first and only dog I met.

I felt like I could relate to him.

He seemed happy and content, like a chill little guy.  There was another woman interested but she seemed weird.

They asked me if I wanted to take him for a walk and I walked him home to my apartment.  He sniffed around, hopped on the couch and seemed at home.

I went out of the room and he followed me.  He’s always by my feet.  He’s my little shadow.

Having Buddy helped me get over a bad relationship quickly.

I feel like I am pretty fortunate, and giving Buddy a good life means a lot to me.  I know that he feels safe and loved.”

JACK, THE SHEPHERD, ROTTWEILER, LABRADOR, GREAT DANE, CHOW, PIT BULL, SWISS MOUNTAIN DOG, TERRIER MIX SIDEKICK (PART 5)

“Jack has taught me a lot about taking care of another being.

On stressful days, he’s what I look forward to when coming home.

A partner has to love him, in addition to loving me.

He’s part of the  package.”

ROSIE, THE MINIATURE DACHSHUND THAT IS OVERCOMING SEPARATION ANXIETY (PART 5)

“I live alone for the first time in my life and Rosie is always there.

I know that when I come home, someone is really happy to see me, always.

I think that is the essence of having a dog;

that unconditional love that they give.

I used to laugh at people with their little designer dogs and their dog bags and now, I am one of them.”

BUCKY LA FONTAINE AND DOLLY, THE BLACK LABRADOR/TERRIER SIBLING RESCUE DOGS FROM BIDE-A-WEE (PART 3)

“We brought Dolly home and she came down with the same virus so we had to bring her back to the the animal hospital at Bide-A-Wee.

We saw Bucky again, and got to see how much he and Dolly had already bonded, trying to play together through their crates, while recovering.

I couldn’t leave Bucky there, so after they were well enough, we brought both of them home.”

“About six months later, I was working with Bide-A-Wee and I attended their annual fundraising gala.

They brought a few rescue dogs to the event. I was introduced to Dolly (the wire-haired).  She was adorable and kissed me right away.

It was love at first sight.

I decided it was the right time for me to get a dog.”

Percy & Watson, the standard poodles that ease the stress of every day life (part 5)

“I have found that my dogs play a similar role in my life.

For me, what’s most joyous is accepting responsibility for them.

They give me the chance to give them the care and love they innately deserve.

That means consistency and being a presence in their life on a daily basis.

They give me the chance to be a better person.”
