Tallulah, the Labrador Retriever/Whippet Rescue dog (Part 1)

“I’ve always loved dogs.

I got Tally when I was in college, two years ago.

I got another dog first, but he was already sick with heart worm.

I didn’t want him to die in the shelter, so I adopted him and got him treated, but he died six months later from a grand mall seizure, related to his heart worm.

I knew I wanted to get another dog, so I waited until I went back home to Florence, Alabama and went to the local shelter, where I met Tally.”

Smoky, the Shepherd Mix Rescue Found wandering in the Smokey Mountains (part 2)

“We brought him to the vet the next morning and he cut the prong collar off of his neck with bolt cutters.

We gave him antibiotics and took him back to our cabin rental, where we weren’t supposed to have dogs.

He slept for the next three days.

While we were still in Tennessee, we saw a flyer for a lost dog with a picture of Smoky.

The vet said, absolutely, do not give him back.”

“I actually found Smoky in the Smoky Mountains.

He was walking at dusk on a road with a mountain on one side and a cliff on the other, so there was nowhere for him to walk but on the road.

I thought he was a dog who was lost, but he didn’t have any tags.

He had a pinch collar that had grown into his neck.

It was night time so we brought him back to our cabin and he slept the whole night.”

L.T., the rescue hound, terrier, and golden retriever mix (part 3)

“After twenty-two years, I lost my job.

L.T. has been my support.

He gets me out and walking every day.

I’ve lost fifteen pounds as well as my depression, since getting L.T.”

Vivi, the terrier, chow, greyhound, chihuahua, sharpei, mix from Puerto Rico (part 2)

“We didn’t find what we were looking for in a New York shelter, so we went to Pet Finder to expand our search.

We found a five month old Labrador mix at Stray From the Heart, a New York City rescue group.

I filled out the paper work, organized a home ivies and it turned out that Vivi was still in Puerto Rico.

She hadn’t been transported to New York, yet.

I picked up Vivi from JFK airport three weeks later.

She was so scared that she didn’t pee for the first fifteen hours that we had her.”

Amelia, the rescue terrier mix from Los Angeles (part 1)

fullsizerender-77

“I had been looking at different rescue organizations on social media for about a year.

I saw Amelia and her three sisters up for adoption on MaeDay Rescue.

All of her sisters were adopted but Amelia was still at the rescue organization two weeks later.

I felt it was meant to be.

I was living in Los Angeles at the time, and there were so many wonderful dogs that needed homes.

After spending a weekend trial with Amelia, I knew she was special and there was no way I could have brought her back.”

Leo, the Lionhearted, Miracle Terrier Rescue (Part 1)

fullsizerender-104

“I was looking for a small dog after I dog sat for a friend of mine who has a chihuahua.

I had a Rottweiler, German Shepherd mix before that who passed away at the age of 15.

We thought we wouldn’t get another dog, but after sitting for a small dog, we decided we wanted another dog; and we wanted a small dog.

You can take a small dog everywhere–on the train, a bus, in a cab and on a plane.

I found Leo on the Eve’s Sanctuary website.

Charlie, the rescue doodle from Hong Kong (part 3)

“Other people were coming in and admiring him and we felt pressured to make a decision.

At that point we decided to take him home.

The guard told us that he barked a bit at night.

We faced a lot of challenges at first.

He was six months old and had not been house broken, he barked incessantly and we lived in an apartment building.

We ended up getting a babysitter for Charlie in the evening.

He was quick to house train, but still has bouts of separation anxiety.

His barking has gotten better over the past few years.

We moved from Hong Kong to New York one the summer and Charlie was in a kennel in Hong Kong for two months while we looked for housing.

Charlie just came back from the airport.

He saw grass for the first time today in Central Park. and loved it.”

Princess, the Pit Bull, Labrador Retriever mix therapy dog (part 1)

fullsizerender-63

“My mom wanted a dog, so a friend came over and we looked on Pet Finder, the ASPCA and other rescue sites, but the process was too long.

They didn’t make it easy.

They wanted to interview me and check out my home.

So, I put flyers out around my apartment complex in Georgia and one person responded.

He said, his dog had puppies and if I wanted one he would bring two for me to meet from a litter his dog just had, and I could choose the one that I wanted.

He brought Princess’s sisters, but they didn’t work out.

They didn’t want to walk and they were hard to train.

I tried to house break both of them, but neither would walk and I ended up dragging them.

I called up the original owner and asked him to take them back because it wasn’t working out.

He told me he had the runt of the litter and she was the last remaining puppy.

That was Princess.”

Lola, the Corgi, Border Collie, Australian Shepherd mix (part 3, she said)

fullsizerender-52

“Lola has so much energy, I wish had more time in the day to let her fun free.

The kids are too young to walk her but they try to look after her.  They love to feed her, giver her treats and play with her and her toys.

She keeps everyone grounded and happy in the family.

I’ve never had a dog before and I didn’t know that I could love a dog so deeply.

Very simply put, she’s my best friend.”
