“Muddy Paws partners with Best Friends Animal Rescue, so I felt good about the organization.

I filled out an application and there was a phone interview.

Once I was approved I started looking online at the puppies and dogs for adoption.

After four weeks I saw Norman’s photo.”

My husband and I love having two dogs in the house.

We had Hannah, a Silky Terrier, and another dog that passed away in April.

We waited five months to get Norman.

I heard about a rescue group called Muddy Paws and I looked them up.

They had a lot of great dogs on their site.”

ANUBIS, THE PAPILLON/CHIHUAHUA MIX AND DIMA, THE POMERANIAN/HUSKY MIX (PART 4)

“The litter was running around in open farmland and playing with one another.

I met them and spotted him immediately, because he was the only one with different colored eyes.

I got to pick him up, and I loved him right away.

He was less fluffy and looked more wild.

I didn’t see the Pomeranian in him, but I didn’t care.”

“I looked at the same place in the Amish Country, where we got Anubis, Greenfield Puppies, because it is not a puppy mill and their dogs turn out well.

Dima is what’s called a Pomsky; a Pomeranian Husky mix.

When I saw him, he stood out to me.

He looked like he was smiling in the photograph, and he has one blue eye and one brown eye.

When I when to Greenfield Puppies, it was just the way I hoped it would be.”

“Two veterinarians said he is a Papillon Chihuahua mix (Chion), and it’s pretty obvious.

He has Chihuahua eyes.

After having Anubis for six months, I decided to get another dog.

I wanted a Husky since I was little but living in a NYC apartment, we thought a smaller version would be better in our space.

I started looking at Husky mixes.”

ROSIE, THE MINIATURE DACHSHUND THAT IS OVERCOMING SEPARATION ANXIETY (PART 5)

“I live alone for the first time in my life and Rosie is always there.

I know that when I come home, someone is really happy to see me, always.

I think that is the essence of having a dog;

that unconditional love that they give.

I used to laugh at people with their little designer dogs and their dog bags and now, I am one of them.”

“I hired Bark Busters.

They really taught me about behavior.

There are no treats or punishment, it’s about speaking their language.

Establishing dominance through sounds really helped.

I would growl at her and she learned that I was alpha.

I also learned to crate train her with a calming sheet covering the crate and she is much less anxious now.”

“I broke up with the person I bought her with.

Rosie got anxious when we broke up and now she has separation anxiety.

She always had it, but it got worse after we moved.

She would bark the entire time I was out at work.

My neighbors were upset with the barking and I was afraid I was going to get kicked out of my new apartment.”

“Two dogs that I was interested in through other rescue organizations got adopted the day before I went to meet them.

After that I started contacting Miniature Dachshund breeders, but I strolled into a pet store and saw Rosie.

It was love at first sight.

She was tiny.  I think she was 3.2 lbs.

She was playful, but not crazy, and was very sweet.

While we were signing the paperwork to buy her, she fell asleep in our arms.”

BUCKY LA FONTAINE AND DOLLY, THE BLACK LABRADOR/TERRIER SIBLING RESCUE DOGS FROM BIDE-A-WEE (PART 2)

“About six months later, I was working with Bide-A-Wee and I attended their annual fundraising gala.

They brought a few rescue dogs to the event. I was introduced to Dolly (the wire-haired).  She was adorable and kissed me right away.

It was love at first sight.

I decided it was the right time for me to get a dog.”
