“We did a DNA test after three months and it turned out that she had no lab in her, whatsoever.

She is supposedly Terrier, Chow Chow, Greyhound, Chihuahua and Sharpei.

Vivi has helped the family bond together.

There is always something to talk about where she is concerned.”

“She hadn’t been transported to New York, yet.

I picked up Vivi from JFK airport three weeks later.

She was so scared that she didn’t pee for the first fifteen hours that we had her.

Over time we developed a routine with Vivi.

She was already housebroken, but was  terrified of street life; cars, street noises and the elevator.

It took about a month for her to acclimate to New York City and our lifestyle.”

“At that point we thought it would be ideal to get a Labrador Retriever mix, because labs are considered family friendly.

We didn’t find what we were looking for in a New York shelter, so we went to Pet Finder to expand our search.

We found a five month old Labrador mix at Stray From the Heart, a New York City rescue group.

I filled out the paper work, organized a home visit and it turned out that Vivi was still in Puerto Rico.”

TWIGGY, THE ITALIAN GREYHOUND/CHIHUAHUA MIX RESCUE (PART 5)

“I am lucky to have such understanding neighbors.

I received a note under my door the first time I left her alone saying, your dog has been barking and crying the entire time you were gone. It was so sad, the next time you leave, please just drop her off with us.

We leave her with the family next door, but I don’t want to take advantage of them.

I have been considering bark busters, but am trying to leave her alone for short intervals of time and build up to longer periods.

Twiggy has become the emphasis of our lives.

We are devoted to her and she is devoted to us.”

“She apologized and swore she would find us a dog.

That Thursday she called and said, she was able to put us at the top of the list for Twiggy, with one caveat-we had to be on their behavioral therapist’s reality show.

We went to Broadway Barks and were filmed admiring Twiggy, even though we had adopted her the previous week.

Since that time, I have fallen in love with her and have a hard time being apart from her.

I took her to work with me for about a year and a half, but have now semi-retired and work from home.

I need to go out on appointments sometimes and we both get separation anxiety.”

“It’s just so comforting to come home after work to such a loving dog.

We went home to the U.K. for three weeks over Christmas, and had to leave her in NYC.

We missed her so much.

I came back before my wife, and when I picked her up from the dog sitter, we were both so happy to see each other.

Tina leapt into my arms.”

“My wife ended up scooping up both dogs in her arms while I hailed a taxi to take us home.

Later we were hit with the reality of looking after two puppies.

We knew we couldn’t cope with two puppies, especially in a small apartment.

I took Tina’s sister, Tula back to Social Tees, which was very sad.

They were both slightly sick, but Tina was more lively, so we decided to return Tula.

It was heartbreaking.”

“They had a photo of a group of dogs and we emailed right away and wrote that we would be available to foster any of them.

We received an email straight back saying, please come in and pick up a dog.

We went to the Social Tees office and they said, hi, here’s Tina and her sister, Tuleh.

We haven’t split them up yet, so would you mind taking them both?”

“We just never saw ourselves owning a dog in Manhattan.

It never occurred to us, because we came from the country in England.

My wife followed Social Tees on Instagram, and after seeing some of the dogs on their site, we decided to try and become foster care givers.

They post  photographs on Instagram of all the dogs that need to be need fostered and people click on the image of the puppy/dog that they are interested in fostering.”

“Both my wife and I have always had dogs.

W had one each with our families, growing up.

We’ve never had one together as a couple and it’s something we’ve talked about for a few years.

The time seemed right to foster, because my wife can’t work, as we are from England.”
