“The routine of having a dog gets the family out every day.

After the death of my father-in-law, we knew we could count on the routines of my children and Vivi to teach us the enjoyment of every day life.

Vivi is teaching the children a sense of responsibility by being another member of the family and having her needs met too.”

“We think she is funny.

She can bounce on her hind legs for quite a while and makes some very entertaining groaning sounds.

She has brought more laughter to our household.

The kids are too young to walk her alone, but they feed her and give her water.

Over a two month period of time my father-in-law became increasingly ill and my husband traveled to see his family, frequently.

While he was away, having Vivi was a great comfort to my children and me.”

“She hadn’t been transported to New York, yet.

I picked up Vivi from JFK airport three weeks later.

She was so scared that she didn’t pee for the first fifteen hours that we had her.

Over time we developed a routine with Vivi.

She was already housebroken, but was  terrified of street life; cars, street noises and the elevator.

It took about a month for her to acclimate to New York City and our lifestyle.”

“After living in New York City for two years, my family felt settled.

Our kids were six and eight at the time, and were begging us for a dog.

We started looking at rescue dogs.

We looked at the ASPCA first, and then the CACC, but we didn’t find an appropriate dog at either place.

We wanted a young dog, but not a puppy, between thirty and forty pounds because of apartment living.”

TWIGGY, THE ITALIAN GREYHOUND/CHIHUAHUA MIX RESCUE (PART 4)

“She apologized and swore she would find us a dog.

That Thursday she called and said, she was able to put us at the top of the list for Twiggy, with one caveat-we had to be on their behavioral therapist’s reality show.

We went to Broadway Barks and were filmed admiring Twiggy, even though we had adopted her the previous week.

Since that time, I have fallen in love with her and have a hard time being apart from her.

I took her to work with me for about a year and a half, but have now semi-retired and work from home.

I need to go out on appointments sometimes and we both get separation anxiety.”

“Our Chihuahua died suddenly and I think we were without a pet for three months.

It was so quiet in the apartment.

We devoted one Saturday and Sunday to going to many animal shelters.

We looked both in and out of the city, and went to six shelters that Sunday.

As we walked into the Humane Society on 59th Street, a technician was taking this beautiful little dog for a walk.”

“For me, Tina is the first taste of having to be responsible for another being and loving it unconditionally.

My wife, Tina and I feel like a proper family unit, now.

Having a dog is a beautiful and enriching experience. “

“It’s just so comforting to come home after work to such a loving dog.

We went home to the U.K. for three weeks over Christmas, and had to leave her in NYC.

We missed her so much.

I came back before my wife, and when I picked her up from the dog sitter, we were both so happy to see each other.

Tina leapt into my arms.”

“My job involves me traveling quite a bit, and my wife rang me in tears after an adoption event while I was away.

She couldn’t bear the thought of giving up Tina.

When I got home, we emailed Social Tees right away and said, we wanted to adopt Tina.

That was it; she was ours.

She quickly became part of our family.”
