“I feel that any time I’ve had struggles in my life, my dogs have all been there for me.

They give unconditional love.

If you’re having a bad day, they don’t care.

As long as I love on Smoky, the love is always there.

A dog’s love is always there.”

Smoky took to our black lab and they were best friends for eight years until she died.

After that, Smoky bonded even more with our Malamute Shepherd mix who lived another year and a half.

It’s hard to say definitively the best or worst time since having Smoky, because he has always been there for me.”

“While we were still in Tennessee, we saw a flyer for a lost dog with a picture of Smoky.

The vet said, absolutely, do not give him back.

When we brought him back he was still sick with infection from the prong collar that had been removed from his neck.

We had two other dogs at home back in Florida and weren’t sure if he would join the pack or they would welcome him–but they all got along well, right away.”

“It was night time so we brought him back to our cabin and he slept the whole night.

We brought him to the vet the next morning and he cut the prong collar off of his neck with bolt cutters.

We gave him antibiotics and took him back to our cabin rental, where we weren’t supposed to have dogs.

He slept for the next three days.”

“I actually found Smoky in the Smoky Mountains.

He was walking at dusk on a road with a mountain on one side and a cliff on the other, so there was nowhere for him to walk but on the road.

I thought he was a dog who was lost, but he didn’t have any tags.

He had a pinch collar that had grown into his neck.”

L.T, THE RESCUE HOUND, TERRIER AND GOLDEN RETRIEVER MIX (PART 1)

“L.T. is short for Logan Taylor.  There is another Logan in my apartment building, so I started calling him, L.T.

I was recently out of work, or semi-retired and I now have the time to devote to a puppy.

My family and I went to a rescue shelter in Westchester, called Paws Crossed.

My daughter and I found L.T.

He is a hound, terrier and golden mix.

We chose him because of his personality.

He was mellow.  He was four and a half months old and he was so serene.”

“Jack has taught me a lot about taking care of another being.

On stressful days, he’s what I look forward to when coming home.

A partner has to love him, in addition to loving me.

He’s part of the  package.”

“He loves to hike, camp, and swim.

We moved back to the city after a year and he seemed to bounce right back.

He adjusts well wherever he is.

Having Jack has made me more open to talking to strangers and making connections.

I keep in touch with friends I made in Colorado and it’s been two years since we left.”

“Jack was three to four months old when I got him.

It was an impulse decision, but it worked out because I lost my job a week after getting him home, so I got to spend quality time training him and helping him adjust to the city.

A month after he came to New York City, we moved to Colorado for a job.

He loved the mountains.”

“I found his picture through a rescue group in Tennessee called Moonshine Dog Rescue.

If you committed to buying one of their dogs, they promised transporting the dog up east.

Once I committed to adopting Jack, another rescue group called Alpha dog Transport brought him from the scout, it a tractor trailer full of dogs from different rescue groups to a designated are off route 80 in New Jersey.”
