“When I miss my family she helps me.

After we Skype, she is always close to my body.

She makes me feel less lonely when I miss them.

Stella is dependent on me, but she is also a great comfort.

I know that she is always here for me.”

Ferris, the rescue Parvo survivor from the mountains of Canada (part 3)

“I think Ferris has changed how we look at animals.

Instead of us thinking that he should do one thing our way, we’ve learned to adapt and compromise.

When he’s on the leash and an aggressive dog comes by, I step between them to stop anything before it happens.

I don’t say, “bad dog,” I simply diffuse the situation.

I know what works for both of us.

We average walking 6-10 miles of walking a day in the city.

I didn’t want him to suffer from our move to the city.

I wanted to maintain his quality of life.”

Flora, the herding mix, (part Jack Russell, part Herding Cattle Dog) (she said, part 2)

“Flora had every imaginable health problem.

She had worms, ear mites, fleas and anything else you can imagine.

Getting her was an expensive proposition, but Flora

is part of the family and we are all very attached.

We have had her for nine years.

She is a high maintenance dog.

She needs a lot of exercise and is very excitable.

When we have people over, it’s hard to get her to settle down.

She is also a hunter.

Once she got a bird in the dog park, which I couldn’t believe.

She was stalking it and before I could intervene she caught it.”

“I had dogs before I had kids.

When my kids wanted a dog, even though I knew better, I capitulated.

I knew that I would be the one taking care of her, even though my kids swore up and down they would.

We went on the North Shore Animal League website and saw Flora.

She was only three months old and was really cute.

It turned out that she was in Arkansas.

My kids insisted she was meant to be our dog, so we flew her from Arkansas to NY.”
