“I made a spread sheet dog friendly apartments on the Upper West Side.

We finally found a prewar building near a subway station, as well as Central Park.

We have only been in NYC for 2 1/2 weeks.

Rosie is doing well as far as adjusting to her new home and city.

The biggest challenge is her wanting to only to the bathroom on grass.”

“Even before the litter was born I spoke with the breeder and we discussed what kind of dog would be a good fit.

The next litter to be born didn’t have a match for us but the following litter did.

I saw videos and photographs of the litter, and Rosie seemed to be the best fit.

I flew to Detroit and brought her home almost two years ago.

Besides having the ordinary pains of puppyhood, we had a difficult time when we moved from Washington D.C. to NYC.

Trying to find an apartment that would take a 95 pound dog along with two cats was not easy.

“I interviewed each one over the phone and then selected the breeder I wanted based on their philosophy.

They rescued a lot of female Newfoundland dogs and put them in homes in their community and when they were ready for breeding, they housed them with the male Poodles.

When the puppies were born, they cared for them personally.

They did temperament testing so the adopter could be suitably matched to each puppy.”

“The Poodle Newfoundland ┬ádog mix seemed like a good compromise.

I wanted a dog so badly.

I grew up on a farm in Wisconsin so I was used to having animals around me all the time.

Being around animals gave me great comfort.

Once my husband agreed to getting a dog, I went back to the research and contacted Newfie/Poodle breeders.

There are less than ten in the nation.”

“I am a researcher by trade, and am really into dogs.

I always had labradors or lab mixes growing up.

I did research into the genealogy of labradors and found out that labradors were originally bred from Newfoundlanders, and a lot of the traits that I loved about labs came from Newfies.

I wanted a Newfoundland really badly, but I found out they are heavy shedders, droolers, and don’t do well in heat.”

“The dedicated dog runs and off leash hours makes having a dog much easier.

There’s also a lot more socialization with other dogs.

I have noticed that people love dogs.

In fact, I think people like dogs more than humans.

My wife and I are grateful to have a dog being a long way from home (Australia), and moving to a new city.”

“They already began to housebreak him, so the rest was easy.

We took him from the countryside to the city of Amsterdam and the was a bit of an adjustment.

He was only 12 weeks old.

He is pretty adaptable, though.

He loves NYC, particularly Central Park and the squirrels.

One of the advantages of living in NYC is the dog culture here, especially on the Upper West Side, where we live.”
