“Ginkgo loves people and dogs, except for young children and babies.

I am preparing for our trip by putting together a medical kit for her as well as myself.

I am working on my safety skills, learning boat repair, and becoming a better navigator.

The reason for the trip is to make a documentary film about by travels and see the world before settling down.”

“Ginkgo is my furry best friend.

I like her better than a lot of humans.

She has a great spirit, she’s intuitive– she has an acute sense of her surroundings.

Ginkgo is a great judge of character.

When she meets someone she doesn’t like she barks.

I trust her.”

“This happened two and a half years ago.

Ginkgo became more clingy, but I think she made a full recovery.

She doesn’t seem to be afraid of cars anymore.

We relocated to New York last year and she has been fine, although she doesn’t like the street and sidewalk vents, as well as the noise.

When we approach a vent on the street she puts the breaks on and I have to carry her until she feels safe.

We plan to set sail in a year and a half.

One of the toughest times since having Ginkgo was when I was living in L.A. and working  a lot.

I left her with a sitter, and one day she ran after me and was hit by a car.

I was afraid she died.

I thought she had internal damage, but she was okay.

I sat in the middle of the road crying and yelling, Grandma, in Italian.

She severed a few toes, but the vet reattached them.”

“Ginkgo is mutt from the Kent Animal Shelter in Riverhead, Long Island.

I am going to circumnavigate on a sailboat and I will need protection, as well as a companion.

She will be more of an alert dog, than a protector.

I knew I needed a small dog because I will be on a small boat and Ginkgo was the only small dog at the shelter.

I’ve had her for four years.”
