“Caring for Ike gets me out of the house and meeting new people.

I can be a bit of an introvert, and Ike has gotten me out of my shell, so to speak.

He’s also a great companion.

We go on hikes in Montauk on a weekly basis.

We both get a little depressed on Monday, when it’s time to come back to the city.”

“Ike, along with his entire litter of siblings was rescued by a group called Social Tees.

The foster people were attached already, but couldn’t keep him.

They were working 10-12 hours a day.

They watch Ike when we go out of town, sometimes.

Ike has changed my life, as a stay at home mom with a tweenage daughter.

He has given me a new purpose.”

“Our daughter had been asking for a dog for ten years and my husband was adamantly against having a dog in the city.

Then one day he said, yes.

During a frigid winter two years ago, we decided we would wait until May, but two weeks into March we saw this beautiful dog being walking in Tribeca.

We thought, this is the kind of dog we would like someday, only to find out that he was being fostered and available for adoption.

Two days later, Ike was ours.”

Bruce, the fearless French Bulldog (part 4)

“Bruce really just changed my perspective on NYC.

He introduced me to a new community.

I love all the people in the dog park, but also, people on the street have been much nicer to me.

That has all made me less lonely.

I’ve had lots of dogs in my life, growing up in Missouri.

With Bruce, it’s different.

He’s 100% mine, and he needs me just as much as I need him.”

“He likes to greet every dog as they enter the dog run.

It’s like he’s saying, welcome!

My boyfriend and I were long distance for three years and we are both performers and we moved to NYC together.

When his work took him out of town, I was lonely.

Bruce has totally been there for me.  I don’t have time to wallow in the loneliness anymore, because he deserves the most happy wonderful life.”

“I’ve always been a dog lover and I knew that I wanted a dog for a long time.

When I found Bruce, I knew he was the one for me.

I got him from a breeder in Missouri.

It was a family friend who knew the I’d been interested.

I wanted to rescue a dog, but with all my traveling as an actor, I needed to make sure that I had a small dog that could fit under my seat in an airplane.

The breeder knew I wanted a small dog and Bruce was the runt of the litter, so it was a good match.”

“I love his smushed face. I think it’s perfect.

I grew up with big dogs.

Bruce has a big dog personality in a small size.

He’s like a line backer.

He likes to play with the big dogs as well as the small ones.

He’s fearless.

He’s really social, which is one of my favorite things about him.”

Bongo, the Maltipoo that’s a great family dog and travel companion (part 3)

“More than sharing stories, Bongo was still a puppy, so we had to be unified in how we were raising him.

From decisions like housebreaking, his schedule, to different styles of training we had to be on the same page.

Bongo has been our practice round when it comes to caring for another life.

It’s good to know that we are on the same page.”

“The best part about having Bongo is how he has brought our focus inward.

In a career (performing), where it’s very easy to get distracted by the quick pace and being pulled in different directions, caring for Bongo has helped ground us.

We’ve only had Bongo for ten months and three to six of those months my wife and I were working in different cities.

Even thought logistically he made things more difficult because the responsibility was all on one person, he was still something that brought us together.”

“Bongo was a surprise from my wife.

I had been traveling for about a year and a half.

I was just coming off the road and we had always talked about getting a dog.

We thought it would be a great time because we would finally be in the same place.

We wanted to do something together and this seemed like the perfect time to get a dog.

We originally talked about a Golden Doodle, but with all of the travel that we wind up doing, she talked with a friend and decided that a Maltipoo would be a great family dog and travel companion.”
